The College opened its new, $36 million Health Sciences Centre with state-of-the-art labs and specialized learning facilities at its David Lam Campus in Coquitlam in 2008, and celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2011.
In January 2010, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) approved Douglas College as an institution that is eligible to apply for and receive research funding, and the College was awarded its first NSERC grant in April 2010. Canada’s Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) has also approved the College as an institution eligible to authorize research applications to SSHRC and to administer any funds awarded.
As outlined in Part 3, Article 6 of the College and Institute Act, the objectives of a college are to provide comprehensive courses of study at the first and second levels of a baccalaureate degree program, courses of study for an applied baccalaureate degree program, postsecondary education or training, adult basic education, and continuing education.
