Business degree kicks it up a notch

Bachelor of Business Administration
Grads advance their careers further thanks to the Bachelor of Business Administration Program.

The fields of finance and accounting have never been more demanding - or dynamic.

There's so much going on, from managing boomers' retirement funds to learning about new regulations and financial products to meeting expectations for greater levels of client service.

To meet the increasing need for highly skilled and educated specialists,  Douglas College responded with the new Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program.

"Employers and current business students both told us that degrees are essential today for many careers in the financial services and accounting sectors. Almost 90 percent of diploma-level business students we surveyed say they plan to complete a degree," says Joe Ilsever, program co-coordinator for Financial Services. "In response, our degree program focuses on real-world skills that employers want and students need to earn professional credentials."

The BBA joins a growing list of Douglas degrees such as Nursing, Physical Education and Coaching, Psychiatric Nursing and Therapeutic Recreation.

"Our commitment to career-focused training has already resulted in many business-sector employers seeking out our diploma-level grads," says former business faculty dean, Rosilyn Coulson. "Now this success can continue as our degree graduates advance their careers."

Students in the program can choose from two specialties, Financial Services and Administration and Accounting. The program offers scheduling for working students and opportunities for those without a business background.

"Most of our students will already have completed some business studies. However, we also offer bridging courses for motivated non-business students who want to enter this exciting field of study," says Elizabeth Hicks, co-coordinator for Accounting.
