Kaela Paradis

is living her dream.

Education:
Child and Youth Care Counsellor Diploma, 2009

Current job :
Youth Worker, Newton Youth Centre (City of Surrey)

Career goals:
I plan to work as a youth counsellor in a school district, or a specialized counsellor in a hospital setting.

Personal goals:
I want to finish my BA Child and Youth Care (Douglas College) in the winter of 2011, as well; I want to build a family and travel.

My role model is:
My mom, the most important figure in my life. She's intellectual and the strongest person I know.

Meant to be

My passion and love for children and youth made this the absolute perfect program for me. I would never have given up on applying for the Child and Youth Care Counsellor Program - it's been my dream for as long as I can remember.

All about balance

The hardest thing about college is prioritizing my time between a social life with friends and family, as well as doing homework and working part-time.

Feeling the love

The best thing about college is meeting amazing people, learning something literally every day and succeeding with my goals and dreams.

Good times

The greatest moments are when instructors and students bond so well that it's not a problem when the whole class can crack up at a joke. As well, I think it's pretty awesome when I can have a bad day and go to school knowing that there are people who can put a smile on my face.

Great teachers

The faculty for Child, Family and Community Studies is really good. Doug Estergaard, John Fleming and Colleen Murphy are the best for me because they taught me so many new things. They're great!

Thanks to my teachers

The most important thing that I have learned in college is that everyone needs to keep up with their personal wellness. As well, building appropriate relationships with youth is key in my field.

Thanks to the youth

I have learned not to judge a book by its cover. Everyone has a story behind their personalities, behaviors and way of life.
