This Spring, I will be

settling into a job for the long haul, but first enjoying my last few days without too much worry!

But in another five years I will be

done my accounting designation and hopefully well on my way to being self-employed. I worked with a past Douglas instructor at his small accounting firm, he worked doing taxes for his neighbours and friends. I thought that was really cool.

If you could go back in time, what would you tell your 17-year-old self?

Plan ahead!

Why did you choose the field you did?

Because it pays well and the job prospects are strong.

Why did you choose your program at Douglas?

The thing I really liked about it is that they designed the program so it’s similar to the Canadian General Accountant requirements. At some other schools, you have to take more classes that aren’t as focused. Also, Douglas is a more affordable degree than if I was to go to a university.

What was the best thing about college?

The good friends I made (Kyle, Mario, Rakesh, Jessie, John, and Seth) and the good times we had.

What was the hardest thing about college?

Three-hour classes. Or in the case of tax, four-hour classes.

What was the most important thing you learned at college?

The most important thing I learned in college is to always have a contingency in place when something doesn’t go as planned, because in many cases, it won’t.

What was the craziest moment you had in class here?

Struggling to find the energy to finish a midterm in Operations Management because I had been up for almost 30 consecutive hours, part of which was spent doing an all-nighter.

Who was the best instructor you had at Douglas?

Elizabeth Hicks. An accounting legend, she is a great person and her notes put textbooks to shame.

What advice do you have for your fellow grads?

To expect things to get harder, not easier.

On a scale of 1 to 10, how excited are you to be leaving school?

4: Mostly because I think it’s just going to get tougher from here on – party time is over!
