Governance and Policies

College Board

Institutional Boards (Board of Directors) occupy a central position in the governance of all public sector organizations. The Douglas College Board acts on behalf of the public and oversees the affairs of the institution (including property, revenue and expenditures) performing functions consistent with the College and Institute Act that the Board considers advisable for the proper administration and advancement of the institution. The Board focuses on policy and strategic leadership rather than administrative detail. It develops and maintains a clear distinction between Board and presidential roles. For information on current members, meeting schedules, minutes and other College Board matters please refer to the links on the left.

Education Council

The College and Institute Act requires that most BC Post Secondary educational institutions create an Education Council. The Education Council at Douglas College is responsible for developing Educational Policies that reflect the Education Council mandate in the College and Institute Act. Some of these policies concern student evaluation, withdrawal, academic standing, appeals, grading and curriculum content. The College Board is required to seek advice from Education Council about a variety of matters as specified by the College and Institute Act. Education Council is composed of 20 voting representatives including 10 faculty, four students, two staff and four administrators. The College President, a College Board member and the College Registrar attend Education Council meetings but do not vote. For information on agendas, minutes, membership and other Education Council matters please refer to the links on the left.
