Exploring Student Fieldwork Experiences within the Bachelor of Physical Education and Coaching Program

This poster presents qualitative research exploring students¿ learning through the fieldwork component of the Bachelor of Physical Education and Coaching Degree Program. Findings from surveys, interviews, and focus group conversations with students are discussed using psychological and socio-cultural theories. Reflections for curriculum and practice are considered.

The Role of the Steroid Dexamethasone on Phagocytosis

This will be a poster presentation of research results regarding the effects of the anti-inflammatory steroid dexamethasone on phagocytosis in cultured mammalian cells.

Workshop on Basic Quantitative and Qualitative Methods in Research in Mental Health

Poster and Power Point presentation developed for workshops on basic quantitative and qualitative research methods. The workshops are intended to provide sufficient understanding of research methods to stimulate learner interest in conducting research as well as equipping learners with the ability to understand research terminology in articles and reports.

Women¿s Experience of Career Decision-Making After Brain Injury

This poster presents the thematic results of a qualitative study of women¿s experience of career decision-making after sustaining a brain injury in midlife. The six common themes highlight the significance of social and relational contexts in the maintenance of mental health and the role of emotions and near death experience in career decision-making.

A poster describing the project will be displayed. Euglena is widely used as a model organism in Biology laboratories. The phagocytic responses of macrophages to Euglena are being examined.

College Students with Learning Disabilities: Understanding Learning Identity

Disability service providers acknowledge that disability self-knowledge is a critical factor in negotiating the demands of postsecondary education. This poster session will present the results of research on students¿ thinking about postsecondary learning and learning disabilities. The findings highlight the importance of understanding this thinking as it is incorporated in students; learning identity development throughout their postsecondary careers.

Identifying the Gaps in Infection Prevention and Control Resources for Long Term Care Facilities in BC

This poster outlines the findings of a BC wide cross-sectional survey of long term care facilities. The survey questions are designed to enable researchers to quantitatively define proportion of nationally recommended infection prevention and control (IPC) resources used by each facility in six key areas. These findings can help identify gaps in IPC resources in this setting.

This exhibit outlines ¿Film/History¿: the intersection of academic study of history with popular representation of the past found on film. Grounded in an appreciation of how most of what students ¿know¿ of history comes not from scholars but pop culture, it reports on both my class room activities & research/conference presentations supported by Scholarly Activity Funds.

Investigating Student Engagement at Douglas College: A Three Phase SoTL Research Project

The SoTL cohort research project began in Fall 2006: Phase l consisted of in-depth exploratory interviews with 12 students; the Phase ll online survey of over 1000 students pursued issues arising from the Phase l interviews; Phase lll followed up on specific survey findings regarding student views of collaborative learning through a series of 7 student-led focus group discussions.

Personal research that examined tolerance of violence in terms of ingroup/outgroup status, strength of religious belief, and religious group.

This project revolved around returning to meet with colleagues at University of Wales, Trinity ¿ St. David¿s. These connections were related to teaching, research, and programs that students might wish to access for academic or applied purposes.

Latest Pleistocene Vertebrates in Western Canada: Northward Dispersal of Late-Glacial to Postglacial Faunas in Two Contrasting Environmental Settings

Poster exhibit concerning Ice-Age mammals and the establishment of early postglacial ecosystems in the Canadian Plains and the San Juans- Vancouver Island region. There will also be a display of relevant reprints of publications and news articles.
