Policy Statement
Douglas College is concerned about the quality of the natural environment, and building a sustainable society. As such, the College has a responsibility to enable the College community to become knowledgeable about the environment, and to become environmentally responsible. To educate by example and to demonstrate good environmental citizenship, College operations will make all reasonable efforts to be environmentally sound.
Procedures/Rules Statement
Institutional Objectives:
- Create an environmentally sound physical plant and operating procedures.
- Design a realistic Campus Green Plan that provides environmentally sound guidelines for all facilities, and ensure they are incorporated into the physical plant and operations procedures.
- Plan for regular environmental audits of College operations to maintain an environmentally sound physical plant, e.g. energy efficient lighting, solar energy, native vegetation in landscaping, reduced use of toxic chemicals, bicycle racks, water conservation devices, and attention to indoor air pollution.
- Encourage environmentally sound operations at the workplace as identified in the Campus Green Plan.
- Design and implement an ongoing information program for students and College personnel to increase and maintain their involvement in sustainable lifestyles.
- Maintain and expand the links with other colleges and organizations to assist each other in our efforts to create a sustainable society.
- Maintain an Environment Committee to develop, implement and monitor the College's Environment Policy and initiatives, including a Green Plan.
- The Administrator responsible for this policy will be the Manager of Site Services, New Westminster Campus.
