Strategic Grant Writing Development Three Day Workshop (Sponsored by the Institute for Strategic Funding Development), June 11 - 13, 2012, 8:30am-4:30pm, UBCDouglas College Student ResearchStudent Research Day 2012 The Fourth Annual Student Research Day was held in the New Westminster campus Concourse on March 26, 2012. With nearly 200 student participants and over 80 research projects displayed, Student Research Day continues to showcase the outstanding research work underway from across all College Faculties. The event is developed, organized, and managed by Douglas College students, who put together a memorable day for all. Emphasizing the individual interests of the participants, the projects featured at the event continue to raise the profile of, and create enthusiasm for, student research at the College. Planning is already underway for next year's events which will be held on March 25th, 2013. Showcasing student research at Douglas College since 2008, our student research event takes place each year at the end of March. The Event is held in either the New Westminster Campus concourse or the David Lam Atrium, sometimes both. With steady growth each year, the event now features an average of 200 students from across all College Faculties presenting over 100 research project posters on a diverse range of topics. The events raise the profile and enthusiasm for student research at the College and create a venue for conversation about student research activities outside the classroom. While the event is sponsored by the Research and Innovation Office and the Office of the Vice-President Academic, students organize and coordinate the event. The student-focused approach encourages student interaction and frames the event within the dialogues that students are most interested in having with each other. The event also presents an opportunity for other discussions about student research, such as those around Research in Teaching and Learning, often leading to parallel events and collaborative initiatives. Message About External Funding Applications
NSERC and SSHRC require grant applicants to demonstrate that their institution is willing to administer the grant and provide any in kind support such as research space or technical assistance. In response to this requirement, College employees who plan to apply for Canadian Tri-Council funding are asked to provide their Dean/Director with a copy of their grant application, including a detailed budget, at least 14 days prior to the application deadline. The Dean/Director will review all grant applications and forward them to the Vice President, Academic. The Vice President's role is to review the grant application and provide institutional approval to satisfy NSERC/SSHRC that the College will provide administrative support to service the grant, and meet any commitments for in kind support. After approval has been provided, applicants can submit their report directly to NSERC or SSHRC. Details about NSERC and SSHRC grants, including application deadlines, are posted on the NSERC and SSHRC websites. Please note that many NSERC and SSHRC grant applications require a letter of intent several weeks prior to the grant application deadline. |
