Behaviour Intervention Certificate, Classroom and Community Support Courses

Students enrolled in the Behaviour Intervention Certificate are required to take a mix of BHIN and CCSD courses BI Certificate students are also required to complete CCSD 1140, CCSD 1150 and CCSD 2334. Please see CCS program course lists for details.

BHIN 1230: The Young Child with Autism (1.5 credits)

This course introduces students to developmental principles and applied strategies that support the learning of a young child who has Autism Spectrum Disorder (including Autism, Asperger Syndrome, Rett Syndrome, Childhood Disintegrative Disorder and Pervasive Developmental Disorder Not Otherwise Specified).

Prerequisites: None

BHIN 1240: Behaviour Intervention Practicum (3 credits)

This applied course provides opportunities for students to practice behaviour intervention skills in selected sites under supervision. Students will integrate and reflect upon their educational, personal, and professional experiences in practicum and seminar.

Prerequisites: CCSD 1140, CCSD 1150, CCSD 2334, and BHIN 1230, BHIN 1256 is a co-requisite

Substitution for BHIN 1240 on Department approval – BHIN 1340: Behaviour Intervention Lab

BHIN 1256: Supporting Positive Behaviour and Communication (3 credits)

This certificate course introduces students to principles and applied strategies in behaviour support and augmentative and alternative communication.

Prerequisites: None

BHIN 1340: Behaviour Interventionist Lab (3 credits)

This course provides students opportunities to deepen their knowledge of and ability to apply the principles and procedures of Applied Behaviour Analysis utilized with children with autism. Students practice a variety of key Behaviour Intervention skills (e.g., instructional strategies, behaviour management, and data collection) through guided observation of fluent practitioners and criterion-based skill rehearsals with fellow students. An emphasis is placed on promoting reflective Behavioural Intervention practitioners.
