Light Warehouse Training Courses
These courses are only for those students enrolled in the Light Warehouse Training Program.
LWTP 0100 Light Warehouse Training Program Intake and Assessment
This course is designed to assist adults with an employment barrier in taking the necessary preparatory steps to enter the full-time LWT program. The course enables students to make informed decisions about entering the program and assists students to achieve success in the program. This is a required course taken by students prior to entrance into other LWT courses.
LWTP 0101: Preparing for the Warehouse Environment (2 credits)
(formerly LWTP 101)
This course is designed to provide students with the personal attributes necessary to succeed in the new working environment of warehousing and distribution centers. This section of the program will concentrate on developing self-confidence and self-esteem, and will develop problem-solving skills for the work place.

LWTP 0102: General Principles of Warehousing (3 credits)
(formerly LWTP 102)
This course is designed to provide students with an overview of the theories and practices of warehousing and distribution centers. Students will be given an introduction to the general workings of warehouses, including the movement and storage of goods, tools and equipment used, and the common security measures. This course also includes basic math for the warehouse. (Both WHMIS and First Aid – Level One certificates can be obtained in this course.)

LWTP 0103: Specific Duties in the Warehouse (3 credits)
(formerly LWTP 103)
This course is designed to provide students with a detailed understanding of the various duties of a warehouse person and the specific job requirements of each position, and to help students make an informed decision as to the particular job they would be most suited to in a warehouse environment. Students will have the opportunity to earn an Occupational Health and Safety Certificate.

LWTP 0104: Lift Truck Theory and Practice (3 credits)
(formerly LWTP 104)
This course will teach the theory and practice of the operation of a sit-down, counterbalance lift truck and will lead, on successful completion, to an Operators Certificate. Students will spend time in the classroom learning the theory of lift truck operation and the stringent safety rules that apply, and will then have hands-on practice on a lift truck before assessment by a qualified instructor.

LWTP 0105: Finding and Keeping a Warehouse Job (1 credit)
(formerly LWTP 105)
This course enables the students to acquire the necessary skills to find a job in the warehouse and distribution field, and then to use successful interview techniques and job skills to get and keep the job. Students will learn how to produce a professional resume and will be shown how to use the internet to successfully search for jobs. Interviewing techniques and positive work site attitudes will be developed.

LWTP 0106: Warehouse Work Practicum (3 credits)
(formerly LWTP 106)
The student will undergo a two-three week, unpaid work practicum in a warehouse or distribution center to gain valuable on-site practical experience, and to put into practice the theories learned throughout the course. The student may choose their site, but will be expected to work in a warehouse-type setting and demonstrate that he/she is fully prepared to join the workforce.
