Douglas College Uganda Endowment Fund
This fund supports health, social service and education projects in the city of Masaka in southern Uganda.
Early Childhood Education Program
Glenda Treffry-Goatley Early Childhood Education Award
This award was established by co-workers in recognition of Glenda Treffry-Goatley's 20 years of love, compassion, hugs and stories for the children and families of Friendly Forest Pre-School. The recipient of this award must show a commitment to providing a stimulating program in a beautiful environment, where children are nurtured as they learn through hands on discovery and play. Applications must be received by January 31st each year in the Early Childhood Education department.
Sign Language Interpretation Program
David Still Memorial Award of Distinction
The David Still Memorial Award of Distinction was established by the family and friends of David Still. David was an instructor at Douglas College in the Sign Language Interpretation Program for many years. Candidates must be enrolled in the Sign Language Interpretation Program at Douglas College, have a minimum GPA of at least 3.0 and a passion for their work both in and outside the classroom, demonstrated by leadership and teamwork as well as volunteer hours.
Youth Justice Program
Bernie Agg Scholarship
This fund was started in 2003 by Pacific Legal Education Association (PLEA). It was established to honour the contribution to youth justice of Bernie Agg, a now retired Probation Officer and founder of the DARE Program and co-founder of the Vancouver's Step Up School. This scholarship is available to a student who is continuing their Post-Secondary degree studies after graduating from the Youth Justice Worker Diploma Program.

Douglas College Business Association Award of Distinction
This fund was established by the Marketing Student Society in 2003 with the original purpose of providing awards to students in the Marketing Management Program at Douglas College. In 2011 the purpose of the fund was updated when the Marketing Student Society became the Douglas College Business Association (DCBA). This award is intended to recognize and reward the work of students involved with the Douglas College Business Association and is presented at the Annual DBCA Birthday celebration. The Douglas College Commerce and Business Administration Selection Committee shall make the selection of the student(s). Recipient(s) must have a minimum GPA of 2.5, be enrolled in a minimum of 9 credits within the Faculty of Commerce & Business Administration, be active members of the Douglas College Business Association and must submit a letter to the committee indicating why they feel they should receive the award and show how they have contributed to their school.
Hospitality Management Program
Peter W. Webster Award
Each year a graduating student is selected from both the Hospitality Management and Criminology programs. Recipients should have evidence of financial need, a GPA of 3.0 or higher and be entering a degree program at a post-secondary institution. This award is renewable for a subsequent year (i.e. a total of two years) if a GPA of 3.0 is maintained. This award focuses on all-around abilities of the recipient and high levels of involvement in college and program activities.
Marketing Management Program
Canadian Institute for Market Intelligence (CIMI) Award of Distinction
This award was established by the former Canadian Institute of Market Intelligence (CIMI) to support Douglas College students entering their second year of the Marketing Management Diploma Program. A selection committee headed by the Dean of Commerce and Business Administration, and including two faculty members from the Marketing Department, shall make the selection of the recipient(s) who must have a minimum GPA of 2.7, be enrolled in their second year of the Marketing Management Diploma Program and be continuing their studies at Douglas College for at least two semesters. Preference will be given to a student in financial need as determined by the Douglas College Foundation Coordinator.

Bausch & Lomb Award of Distinction
This annual award is presented to a student specializing in contact lens technology who displays high academic achievement, commitment to personal development, leadership, and involvement in class activities.
CIBA Vision Canada Award of Distinction
This annual award is presented to a first year student for high academic achievement. The recipient must be registered for the second year of the Dispensing Opticians Program.
Coopervision Award of Distinction
This annual award is presented to the student with the highest grades in the Contact Lens Program.
Costco Wholesale Canada Award of Distinction
This annual award is presented to a first year student for high academic achievement who also demonstrates involvement in community activities. The recipient must be registered for the second year of the Dispensing Opticians Program.
Dispensing Optician Association of BC Bursary
The Dispensing Optician Association of British Columbia (DOABC) was formed in 1960 to enhance the business and political influence of the optical business in the province. The DOABC played a key role in advancing the interests of opticians by acting on issues that affected the optician business/profession as well as individual opticians. When the association disbanded in 2010, it boasted 380 active members and stores. After 40 years of service, the DOABC was recognized by government and industry as the senior advocacy association for the opticianry business/profession in BC. In 2010 DOABC made a significant contribution to the Dispensing Optician Bursary Endowment. In recognition of its support, Douglas College Foundation renamed this endowment to reflect the association's generosity.
Dr. David Neima Dispensing Optician Award of Distinction
This endowment was created by Dr. David Neima, a specialist in the field of ophthalmology, to reward and recognize hard working and talented students enrolled in Douglas College’s Dispensing Optician Diploma program. The recipient(s) of this award of distinction will demonstrate outstanding academic achievement and performance in the classroom, as well as volunteer or charity work in their community.
Hoya Vision Care Canada Award of Distinction
This annual award is presented to a first year student who demonstrates the highest academic achievement in practical lab skills.
Johnson & Johnson Vision Care Award of Distinction
This annual award is presented to a student specializing in contact lens technology who displays high academic achievement, commitment to personal development, devotion to contact lens knowledge and who exhibits a passion for the fitting of contact lenses.
Jonathan Briggs Memorial Bursary
This bursary was established in memory of Jonathan Briggs by his family. Students in the Dispensing Optician Program at Douglas College are eligible to receive this bursary. Recipients must be in financial need. Please contact the Dispensing Optician Department for more information.
Lasik MD Award of Distinction
A national provider of laser vision correction, LASIK MD provides an annual contribution to the Dispensing Optician Diploma Program at Douglas College. Two awards are distributed annually to recognize the high academic achievement of a first and second year graduating student who also demonstrates an interest and aptitude in specialty ophthalmic applications.
Marchon Award of Distinction
This annual award is presented to a first year student registering into the second year of the Dispensing Optician Program who demonstrates high academic achievement. A plaque is also presented to a second year student who demonstrates high academic achievement.
McCray Optical Supply Award of Distinction
This annual award is presented to a first year student who demonstrates high academic achievement and professionalism inside and outside of academic life.
Nikon Optical Canada Award of Distinction
This annual award is presented to a first year student for high academic achievement. The recipient must be registered for the second year of the Dispensing Opticians Program.
Psychiatric Nursing Program
College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of British Columbia – Richard Strong Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship has been created in honor of Richard (Dick) Strong, a founding member of the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of BC and the first President of the Psychiatric Nurses Association of Canada from 1952 to 1956. The award is made to the student with the highest cumulative GPA in the Psychiatric Nursing Diploma or Bachelors of Science in Psychiatric Nursing Degree program prior to their semester of preceptorship experience and program exit.
Diana Gunderson Award
The family of Diana Gunderson and the Douglas College Psychiatric Nursing Faculty established this fund in Diana's memory to provide one or more financial awards for students in the Psychiatric Nursing Diploma Program. Diana was a dynamic and unique individual who taught for five years in the Psychiatric Nursing Program. Diana made a significant contribution to students and faculty through her humour, creativity, and passionate commitment to the psychiatric nursing profession. Upon recommendation of the faculty, funds will be awarded to recognize students who have demonstrated excellence, caring and creativity in the final year of their psychiatric nursing practice experiences.
John Krushelniski Memorial Award
The purpose of this annual fund is to provide an award to students enrolled in the Psychiatric Nursing Program at Douglas College in memory of John Krushelniski. This memorial award recognizes his work with Forensics, Corrections and Psychiatric Nursing and his quiet, compassionate and caring nature. He was a role model to his colleagues and a friend to many. The award will be given to a student who has demonstrated genuineness, caring, compassion, and empathy in their clinical practice. Good teamwork, support of fellow students, and the ability to work effectively as a team member in clinical practice will also be taken into consideration. The recipient must have a minimum GPA of 3.0, and have completed semester 4 of the Psychiatric Nursing Program. To be awarded based on a Psychiatric Nursing faculty recommendation.
Philip Lowry Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established in memory of Philip Lowry by his family. Philip was a graduate of the Douglas College Psychiatric Nursing Diploma program. The scholarship recognizes and rewards Psychiatric Nursing students attending Douglas College. Students must be enrolled in the final year of the Psychiatric Nursing Diploma or Degree Program and have a minimum 3.5 GPA. Recipients will be chosen by a Psychiatric Nursing Selection Committee in the Winter semester based on applications submitted. The application consists of a short (200 word max) description of how they demonstrate a passion for the psychiatric nursing profession, a commitment to working with people with mental health and addictions or related health challenges, and compassion for patients. The description must be submitted to the Selection Committee (forwarded to Ingrid Currey) by January 30th of each year.

John Oliver Ritchie Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was created by family and friends in memory of John Oliver Ritchie. John was a much loved instructor at Douglas College for 30 years in the Faculty of Nursing. The purpose of this scholarship is to recognize Douglas College nursing students who show promise and outstanding commitment early in their program and to assist those students as they claim their place in their chosen profession. Students are nominated by Nursing Faculty to receive this scholarship. Recipients will be selected based on clinical excellence, academic performance, and criteria related to John Oliver Ritchie as a nurse and teacher.
Health Care Support Worker Program
MPA Society PSR Award of Distinction in Mental Health & Addictions
The Motivation, Power and Achievement Society (MPA) established this annual scholarship to recognize and reward students who show initiative and innovation in the field of Psycho Social Rehabilitation and recovery in mental health. The MPA Society has pledged to make this scholarship available to Douglas College students graduating from the Health Care Support Worker or Community Mental Health Worker Programs. Rafaela Wilson Memorial Award of Distinction
This award was created in memory of Rafaela Wilson, mother of Acting Dean of Health Sciences, Silvia Wilson. Candidates must be enrolled in the final semester of the Health Care Support Worker Certificate Program and meet all requirements for graduation from the Health Care Support Worker Certificate Program. The recipient will have demonstrated clinical excellence, a compassionate nature as judged by faculty and staff, and have a minimum GPA of 3.0

Criminology Program
Brodie Osborne-Campbell Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was established to honour the life of Brodie Osborne-Campbell, a 15-year-old Grade 10 student at Charles Best Secondary in Coquitlam, who died in April 2007 of a bacterial meningitis infection. Brodie was the beloved son, and only child, of Colin Campbell, an instructor in the Douglas College Criminology Department, and Judith Osborne. In order to be eligible applicants must be enrolled in the Douglas College Criminology Program and be a full-time student making the transition from first to second year. Recipients will have a minimum GPA of 3.5. In the event of a tie, preference will be given to applicants in financial need. Applications are available through the Criminology Department.

History Program
George and Mary Porges Prize in History
George Porges taught European and Canadian history at Douglas College from 1970 to 1989. In 2002 he set up this fund to assist history students in their pursuit of history and lessons one can learn from studying history. In order to be eligible for this prize, students must have completed at least four history courses; a minimum of two at the 2000-level courses. At least one of these 2000-level courses must have an element or period of European history as its primary subject (HIST 2201, 2202, 2203, and 2204). Students must have completed one History course in the previous calendar year and students must have obtained an average grade of A- or better (GPA = 3.67) for all History courses completed at Douglas College. No application is necessary.

Institute for Urban Ecology
Institute of Urban Ecology Endowment
This endowment has been established through major donations from the Real Estate Foundation of BC, Terasen, Allard Contractors Ltd., Jack Cewe Ltd., Rempel Bros. Concrete Ltd., LAFARGE Construction Materials, Mainland Sand & Gravel, BC Hydro, Royal Bank of Canada Foundation, Construction Aggregates Ltd., Steelhead Aggregates Ltd., Aggregate Producers Association of British Columbia along with support from many other community partners. Since its establishment, IUE has been involved in a myriad of community-based activities and projects and undertakes a variety of research projects related to urban sustainability issues. TD Bank Financial Group Award of Distinction in support of the Douglas College Institute of Urban Ecology
This award was established by the TD Bank Financial Group to support Douglas College students working with the Institute of Urban Ecology. A committee composed of the Director of the Institute of Urban Ecology and the Chair of the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences will select recipients that have a minimum GPA of 3.0, are enrolled in a Douglas College directed-studies course (e.g. SCIE 2307 - Field Research Project) and who are completing a project in conjunction with the Institute of Urban Ecology.
Animal Health Technology Program
Animal Health Technology Association of British Columbia Award of Distinction
This award was established in 2009 by the Animal Health Technology Association of British Columbia. The AHTA of BC is a registered association working to provide support to its membership and promote the profession of Animal Health Technology. This Award will benefit 2 Animal Health Technology students each year, one Fall recipient entering their 2nd year and one Summer recipient graduating from the program. Recipients must demonstrate a support in the growth of the Animal Health Technology profession such as volunteer work with the Association and will be chosen by the Animal Health Technology Selection Committee.
Matt Rumberg Memorial Award
The Matt Rumberg Memorial Award was established by Norma Rumberg in memory of her husband Matt Rumberg. Matt passed away in April 2007 after trying to save his beloved dog Holly; he is missed greatly by his family, friends and the community. The Matt Rumberg Memorial Award reflects Matt’s belief in the protection and support of animals in his community and the importance of higher education. This award will benefit students enrolled in their final semester of the Animal Health Technology program. Preference will be given to those who have contributed to their community in a manner that demonstrates their love and compassion for animals.
Merial Canada Award of Distinction
This award was established in 2009 by Merial Canada Inc. This award will benefit students who are enrolled in the Animal Health Technology program who have a good academic standing and demonstrate a strong leadership and professionalism in the class room and labs. Up to two recipients may be chosen each year and will be selected by the Animal Health Technology Selection Committee.
Pfizer Animal Health's Fred Dumbrell Award of Distinction
This award was established in 2009 by Pfizer Animal Health . This award will benefit students in the Summer semester who are enrolled in the Animal Health Technology program who have a good academic standing and demonstrate a strong leadership and professionalism/teamwork in the class room and labs. Recipients will be selected by the Animal Health Technology Selection Committee.
SACN (Small Animal Care Nursing Award) of Distinction
This award was established in 2008 to by Hill’s Pet Nutrition to benefit students who are entering their 2nd year of study in the Animal Health Technology Program. To be considered students must submit an application to their instructor by February 9th and recipients will be selected by the Douglas College Animal Health Technology Selection Committee. Athletic Award Listing
Andy and Helen Andrews Memorial Award
This endowment was established in memory of Harold Norman "Andy" Andrews who was with Douglas College from 1972 to 1984. He was vice-principal of the McBride Campus and Director of Program Planning and Development. The recipients of this award must demonstrate significant athletic achievement in combination with outstanding academic performance. The award is available for one female and one male student athlete registered with Continuing Education in a Centre for Campus Life sponsored athletic program. Applications are available through the Centre for Campus Life.
Baseball Coaches Association of BC Award
Two awards will given to students attending Douglas College who are currently playing baseball. The student(s) with the highest GPA in the most recent academic year will receive the award. Preference will be given to BC high school graduates. Preference for one of the awards to be given to coaches who apply. Selection will be made by the Centre for Campus Life.
British Columbia Wrestling Association Award of Distinction
The British Columbia Wrestling Association is a non-profit organization that was created in 1979. Douglas College and the British Columbia Wrestling Association partnered to create this award to support student wrestlers.
Centaur Products Sports Award of Distinction
This award is made possible by Centaur Products Inc. and is given to recognize athletic excellence. Candidates must be participating in a two-semester sport at Douglas College and be enrolled in a minimum of nine credits. Selection of the students is made by the Douglas College Athletic Department.
Coach Frick Wheelchair Basketball Award of Distinction
This award was established by Tim Frick, the Wheelchair Basketball Coach at Douglas College. The goal of the Coach Frick Wheelchair Basketball Award of Distinction is to recognize athletes in different categories of the sport with emphasis on the following: most valuable player, most improved player, most consistent player, the player with the most sportsman-like conduct, and a player who has represented BC or Canada.
David Munro Basketball Award of Distinction
The candidate(s) for this award must have participated in the Best in the West Basketball SuperCamp. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate leadership both on the court and in the classroom. Student recipients must be positive role models and possess a strong work ethic.
Douglas College Athletic Awards of Distinction
The purpose of this fund is to use the interest to provide financial assistance to students who are members of Douglas College Varsity Teams. Eligible candidates must participate in a two-semester sport and be recommended by their coaching staff. Applications are available through the Athletics Department.
Douglas College Rugby Award of Distinction
Douglas College Rugby awards shall be distributed to selected student-athletes in either the Fall or Winter semesters. Potential recipients must submit a letter to the executive of the United Rugby Club detailing their previous experience and future aspirations in the sport of rugby, by April 30th of each year. Successful applicants must be registered students at Douglas College or entering Douglas College in either the upcoming Fall or Winter semesters; demonstrate above average skill and dedication in the sport of rugby; and commit to full participation in the club rugby program. Consideration shall be given to those demonstrating financial need.
Gail Moore Memorial Award of Distinction
This award honours Gail Moore, a well-known amateur golfer who was a three-time Canadian Junior Champion, a two-time Canadian Amateur Champion, Canadian Open Champion, three-time member of Canada's World Amateur team, and three-time member of Canada's Commonwealth Team. Two recipients will be selected each year: one female student at Douglas College playing in a competitive collegiate-level golf league and one female golfer residing in BC as chosen by the Moore family. The Douglas College student must be registered in and pass a minimum of nine (9) credits in both the fall and winter semesters and maintain a minimum GPA of 2.1. Both recipients must compete a full schedule in a competitive collegiate-level golf league and demonstrate a passion for golf.
Gord Ellis Memorial Scholarship
The candidates of this award must be or have been active members of the British Columbia Baseball Association over an extended period of time. Applicants should also show evidence of community and school involvement and be of exemplary character.
Jesse Penner Memorial Award
This award was established in memory of Jesse Penner, a former Douglas College student-athlete on the baseball team. The recipient of this award must be a member of the Douglas College Baseball Team. The recipient must demonstrate a commitment to the team and its players at all times. Special consideration shall be given to applicants who are deemed by the Douglas College Baseball coach to demonstrate leadership, sportsmanship and team spirit.
Katie Cole-McGilligan Men’s Basketball Bursary
This Bursary was created by Katie Cole-McGilligan’s father, and DC Mens basketball coach in honour of his daughter. The award recognizes students who possess courage, strength of character and passion for their sport. Recipients must be a member of the men’s basketball team and have demonstrated financial need.
Labatt Breweries Athletics Award of Distinction
The recipient must show an excellence within a specific area of study or competition, have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and be a registered Douglas College student who is also an athlete on one of the Douglas College sports teams.
Leong Badminton Award of Distinction
This fund may be distributed in the Fall, Winter or Summer semesters to recognize and promote athletic excellence in badminton. It reflects the commitment to Douglas College by Michelle Leong, a longtime staff member. Student badminton athletes must be enrolled in a minimum of 9 credits at Douglas College and demonstrate a minimum GPA of 2.0 unless enrolled in the EASL program, or if being recruited. Candidates for this award will be chosen by Centre for Campus Life Awards Committee of Douglas College.
Margaret Mason Women's Basketball Award of Distinction
The recipient of this annual award must be a member of the Douglas College Women's Basketball team, have a minimum GPA of 3.0 and demonstrate superior athletic ability. Preference will be given to students who are in financial need.
Peter Kerr Memorial Bursary
The purpose of this bursary is to recognize a Douglas College student who demonstrates athletic excellence, ability, and achievement. Preference will be given to a member of the Douglas College Royals’ Men’s Soccer team in memory of Peter Kerr, a professional soccer player who competed in England, Scotland, and South Africa. Recipients must demonstrate evidence of financial need.

Continuing Education Program Awards
Ellen Edwards Career Development Practitioner (CDP) Programs Award of Distinction
This award was established in honour of Ellen Edwards upon her retirement as Executive Director from the NETWERCC (now BC Career Development Association) in 2005. This award was created in recognition of her outstanding contribution (since 1992) to the development, marketing and quality maintenance of the Career Development Practitioner (CDP) Programs in the Child, Family and Community Studies in Continuing Education (CFCS–CE) at Douglas College. This award is available to students registered in a CDP Certificate Program in the Faculty of CFCS-CE at Douglas College who reside in B.C., are active as a volunteer, and who aspire to work in the career development sector. Health Sciences Continuing Education Award of Distinction in Honour of James Doerr
This fund was established in honour of Jim Doerr upon his retirement from Douglas College in 1995. Jim was the Dean of Community Programs and Services and this award was created in recognition of his outstanding contribution to continuing education at Douglas College and his belief in lifelong learning. Applicant must be enrolled in a Continuing Education course or program and must be a resident of BC. Apply through the Continuing Education office.
Developmental Education
Lesra and Cheryl Martin Literacy Award of Distinction
Lesra Martin, whose life was shown in the movie The Hurricane, did not learn to read and write well until he was 17 years old. With the help of a group of Canadians, he completed his education and is now a lawyer in Kamloops. Lesra is also a motivational speaker who speaks passionately about the importance of literacy. The Lesra and Cheryl Martin Literacy Bursary was established by Lesra and Cheryl to help literacy students reach their goals. This bursary is available to students in the I-CARE program or in DVST literacy and numeracy classes (courses within the 0100 level). Students should apply to their DVST instructor or the Coordinator of the I CARE Program, no written application is necessary. Tutors and instructors may apply on the student’s behalf.
Maureen Jaeggle Literacy Endowment
This award was named in honour of Maureen Jaeggle to recognize her devotion to helping students in need at Douglas College. Maureen was a dedicated instructor in the Developmental Studies program. The purpose of this bursary is to provide financial assistance to students in the I-CARE program or in DVST literacy and numeracy classes (courses within the 0100 level). It is awarded based on financial need and current standing in the program. Students should apply to their DVST instructor or the Coordinator of the I CARE Program, no written application is necessary. Tutors or instructors may apply on the student’s behalf.
External Awards
William W. Gilgan Award
This fund was established by the children of William W. (Bill) Gilgan to honour their father on the occasion of his 75th birthday. Bill made a career in the forest industry after returning from serving with the RCAF during World War II and after completing a degree in Forestry at UBC. In the 1960s, Bill took on the role of the Regional Planner for Bulkley Nechako, a position he held until retirement. He has also held the positions of marriage commissioner, trapper and Mayor of Burns Lake. Bill has also been a long time Rotarian, a school trustee and a member of the Board of the College of New Caledonia. This award is presented to a graduating student from Lakes District Secondary School.
Grieg Hunter Memorial Scholarship
This fund was established by Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Hunter in memory of their son Greig to provide a scholarship for a graduating student Semiahmoo Senior Secondary School in White Rock. Recipients are selected by the Semiahmoo Senior Secondary Grad Committee on the basis of need, citizenship and enrollment in a Canadian Post Secondary College or University.

Office for New Students (ONS) Student Leadership Award
This award was created in 2009 by the Douglas College Office for New Students (ONS) to recognize and reward the dedication and hard work of the students in the Douglas College Student Ambassador program. Recipients selected by the Douglas College ONS Selection Committee must have a minimum GPA of 2.0, be a Douglas College Student Ambassador and demonstrate commitment to Douglas College and the Student Ambassador Program, evidenced through their work ethic and performance.
Technology/Equipment Funds
Centre for Technology Enhanced Language Learning (CTELL) Endowment
The R. Howard Webster Foundation has donated over $200,000 to create this endowment for the purpose of supporting and maintaining the CTELL Lab at Douglas College. The CTELL Lab is designed to integrate innovative educational technology into the delivery of assessment and educational programming in two areas: (1) English as a Second Language and (2) American Sign Language Interpretation and Education. Faculty submits requests to the CEIT Department at Douglas College as they are responsible for maintaining and upgrading the CTELL lab. Acting in accordance with the Educational Technology Capital Process, a committee within CEIT evaluates the technical merits of each request to determine funding priorities, which receive final approval through the Foundation.
David & Dorothy Lam Technology Endowment
The purpose of this endowment is to provide undesignated funds for technology-related capital purchases. A prioritized request list for items to be purchased is provided to the Foundation Office prior to the Fall Semester by the Technology Planning and Management Committee (TPMC). The Foundation Board, in consultation with SMT, makes the selection of appropriate items.
International Studies
Douglas International Education Entrance Scholarship
The purpose of this annual fund is to provide scholarships to new Douglas College international students. The intent of the scholarship is to recruit and support students who will be successful in their academic studies and have the capabilities to contribute to the internationalization of Douglas College. Students will be selected based on their academic performance in their secondary school studies and their engagement in their school, community and/or personal development. Ten scholarships are available each year: five in the Fall semester and five in the Winter semester at $1,000 each. Students who receive a scholarship will have the funds applied to their registration fees for the upcoming semester. Students registering for the Fall semester must apply by July 31, while students applying for the Winter semester must apply by November 30. Guidelines and applications will be available on-line and should be submitted to Douglas International.
Momoyama Gakuin (St. Andrew's) University Scholarship
This fund was established by the Momoyama Gakuin (St. Andrew's) University and the Douglas College Centre for International Education. Two scholarships are available to a returning international student who has achieved a record of academic excellence in one of the following combinations of the first-year Modern Language courses: Chinese MODL 1191 and 1192, French MODL 1101 and 1102, German MODL 1131 and 1132, Japanese MODL 1171 and 1172, or Spanish MODL 1151 and 1152. Two scholarships are available to a returning Canadian or Permanent Resident student who has achieved a record of academic excellence in the combinations of the first- or second-year Japanese Language courses MODL 1171 and 1172 or MODL 2271 and 2272.
Stewart Graham Memorial International Exchange Award
The Stewart Graham Memorial International Exchange Award was established by the Douglas College Foundation in memory of Stewart Graham, who was instrumental in the college’s founding. The purpose of this award is to assist students engaging in cultural or language learning studies programs abroad. The award is provided in support of travel or exchange costs.
Douglas College/Moriguchi City/New Westminster 30th Anniversary Scholarship
The cities of Moriguchi and New Westminster and the Boards of Douglas College and New Westminster Secondary School inaugurated this endowment in 1993 in honour of the 30th Anniversary of the “twinning” of New Westminster and Moriguchi. Three scholarships are available: one for a New Westminster resident attending Douglas College who displays evidence of community involvement and has completed a minimum of 24 credits; one for a New Westminster Secondary School student demonstrating excellence in their Japanese studies who may be attending a post-secondary institution other than Douglas College; and one for an international student from Moriguchi City who is enrolled in EASL classes at Douglas College.
Douglas College International Education Award of Distinction
Three scholarships of $1,000 each are available to international students who have completed at least 24 credits at Douglas College in any program. A selection committee from the Douglas College International Department shall make the selection of the student(s). Recipients with GPA of 3.0 or higher will receive $500. Recipients with GPA of 3.5 or higher will receive $1,000.
Shirafuji Academy Scholarship
Shirafuji Academy Scholarship has been established by the Shirafuji Academy in Nara, Japan. Four scholarships are available. Two scholarships are available to a returning Canadian or landed immigrant student who graduated from School District #42 (Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows School District). Two scholarships are available to a returning international student who has achieved a record of academic excellence at Douglas College. Students must have completed a minimum of 24 credits with a minimum 3.5 GPA at Douglas College prior to submitting an application.
