CA Education Foundation Award
A $1000 tuition credit in the Advanced Certificate Program in Accounting (ACP) or the CA School of Business is available to a student in the graduating year of the Accounting Management Diploma program. This award is given in recognition of academic achievement. Apply by February 28 to the CA Education Foundation. Application forms are available on-line at www.caef.bc.ca.
Certified General Accountants Association of BC (CGA) Scholarship
Two continuing education scholarships, a $750 waiver of the student's first-year tuition in the CGA program, is offered to graduates of the Accounting Management Program (certificate or diploma) at Douglas College. Apply by May 1.
David Macaree Award for Improved Dementia Care
This award is intended to recognize top students across the province completing the Residential Care/Home Support programs that include a dementia component and a practicum component in long-term care units. Instructors in the qualifying program will nominate the top student for this award.
Editors' Association of Canada/Association canadienne des réviseurs, British Columbia Branch, Print Futures Scholarship
The BC Branch of the Editors' Association of Canada/Association canadienne des réviseurs, established this scholarship to recognize the commitment and achievements of students entering the field of professional writing and editing. It is awarded annually to a graduating full or part-time Print Futures student.
F.K. Chan and Company CGA, CMA, CA Scholarship
This annual fund was started in 1999 by Port Coquitlam CGA firm F.K. Chan & Company. The purpose of this annual fund is to provide a scholarship to students graduating from Douglas College who plan to pursue a career as accounting professionals, in either CGA, CA or CMA in the Province of British Columbia.
George Wootton Scholarship
Scholarships in honour of George Wootton, the first president of Douglas College, are made available to graduating students in any program who have shown superior scholastic ability and significant participation in college and/or community activities. Candidates must be nominated by a student, staff or faculty member and nominations must include a letter of recommendation giving the reasons for the nomination. Deadline for nominations is May 1.
Governor General's Bronze Medal
A bronze medal, presented by Her Excellency, the Governor General of Canada, is awarded annually to a Douglas College student. Although no monetary value is attached to the award, it is considered the highest academic honour the College can bestow. Normally it is awarded to the student who, in the opinion of the selection committee, has achieved the highest overall average upon graduation from a two-year Diploma program. No application is required.
Lieutenant-Governor's Silver Medal
A silver medal, presented by Her Excellency, the Lieutenant-Governor of British Columbia is awarded annually to a Douglas College student. Although no monetary value is attached to this award, it is awarded to the student who, in the opinion of the selection committee, has achieved the highest overall average upon graduation from a Citation or Certificate program. No application is required.
Mary Fewster Memorial Nursing Scholarship
Mrs. Lillian Fewster and the Douglas College General Nursing Department created this award in 1987 in memory of Mary Fewster, a founding member of the Douglas College General Nursing program and its director from 1981 through 1986. Candidates are graduating from the General Nursing Program and can demonstrate evidence of commitment to nursing. Two letters of reference are required from clinical nursing instructors which document the student's performance in two areas: excellence in clinical objectives related to professional behaviour and interpersonal communications with patients and staff; and above average abilities in meeting remaining clinical objectives. Students apply during their final semester in the program. Check with the Financial Aid Office for the deadline date.
Pearson Education Canada Book Award
This award is a book supplied by Pearson Education Canada. It is awarded to a graduating student in the Psychiatric Nursing Program who has attained at least a 3.67 GPA and who has demonstrated outstanding service to the class and the community. The student is nominated by his/her fellow students.
Peter W. Webster Award
This graduation award was established by Peter. W. Webster, a long-time Foundation Board Member. Each year a graduating student from the Douglas College Hotel and Restaurant Management and the Criminology Programs will each receive one award. The students must be entering a degree program at a Canadian post-secondary institution. The award is renewable to a subsequent year (i.e, total of two years) if a GPA of at least 3.0 is maintained. The award is not available for the top student in each program, but rather focuses on all-around abilities and high levels of involvement in College and program activities. No application required.
