Computing Science and Information Systems
Douglas College’s Computing Science and Information Systems (CSIS) programs prepare students for careers in the computer support industry. The programs combine business applications, computer systems, networking concepts and programming languages.
There are four programs offered: a one-year certificate program, a two-year general diploma program, a two-year diploma (with specialty) program and a two-year diploma (with double specialty) program.
Transfer credits to the Computer Science or Business areas are available for many of the Computing Science and Information Systems courses. The list of receiving institutions includes SFU, UBC, UVic, UNBC, UCFV, BCIT, Kwantlen University College, University of Lethbridge and several more.

Intake Dates/Application Deadlines
EARLY ADMISSION
Although application and document deadlines may be identified for this program, we encourage all
applicants to apply early and to submit all supporting documentation as early as possible. Those
applicants who apply early and submit all documents early may be offered early admission.
Computing Science and Information Systems Credentials
The Computing Science and Information Systems Department offers the following credentials
- One-year Certificate
- Two-year General Diploma
- Two-year Diploma (with Specialty)
- Two-year Diploma (with Double Specialty)
Any one of the above programs can be taken on a full-time or part-time basis.
The three specialty areas are:
Both the Web Development and Software Development options will be offered starting Fall 2008. The offering of Network Infrastructure option will be postponed until further notice.
One-Year Certificate
The one-year Certificate is made up of 10 courses. The student is required to take four non-CSIS courses and six CSIS courses. Out of the six CSIS courses, three are electives.
Two-year General Diploma
The two-year General Diploma requires a student to complete 20 courses. The student has to take 30 CSIS credits (10 CSIS core courses), any other 12 credits of CSIS elective courses from the three specialty areas (4 courses), 15 non-CSIS credits (5 non-CSIS courses) and 3 credits (1 general elective course from a given list).
Two-year Diploma (With Specialty)
The two-year Diploma (With Specialty) requires a student to complete 20 courses. The student has to take 30 CSIS credits (10 CSIS core courses), 15 credits of specialty courses (5 CSIS courses), and 15 non-CSIS credits (5 non-CSIS courses).
Two-year Diploma (With Double Specialty)
The two-year Diploma (With Specialty) requires a student to complete 23 courses. The student has to take 30 CSIS credits (10 CSIS core courses), 21 credits of specialty courses (7 CSIS courses from two specialty areas), 15 non-CSIS credits (5 non-CSIS courses).
