University Transfer Program Requirements

Students can transfer the credits from the Associate of Arts degree to satisfy all of the lower division requirements of the SFU Bachelor of Arts (Major in Economics) degree, and many of the lower division requirements of the SFU Bachelor of Business Administration, UBC Bachelor of Arts (Major in Economics), UBC Bachelor of Commerce, and other degree programs. Students will be selected competitively based on the university grade-point admission average. Consult Academic Advisors for details.

Specific SFU Bachelor of Arts (Major in Economics) Requirements:
For students planning to transfer their Douglas College Associate of Arts credits to SFU to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Economics (major or minor), the following plan of study detailed below is the best route to ensure the satisfaction of all lower level (first two years) undergraduate program requirements. Students choosing to pursue a BA in Economics at SFU through the Associate of Arts degree option are also eligible to apply for the new dual or joint admission status under the agreement between SFU and Douglas College.

Specific SFU Bachelor of Business Administration Requirements:
If students follow the specific plan of study as detailed below, they can transfer their Associate of Arts (Specialty in Economics) degree credits to SFU to pursue the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree program for entry at the third-year level. However, students must choose (1) ACCT 1210 or ACCT 1235 Financial Accounting and (2) CSIS 2200 Systems Analysis and Design as their two first-year electives to ensure that the Associate of Arts (Economics) degree satisfies the requirement of the nine specific lower division CORE courses of the SFU BBA degree program: 1) ENGL 1130, 2) ENGL or PHIL, 3) MATH 1120 or 1125, 4) ECON 1150, 5) ECON 1250, 6) ACCT 1210 or 1235, 7) SOSC 2140, 8) BUSN 2429 and 9) CSIS 2200.

This is a safe and creative option for transfer students interested in SFU degrees because, in addition to the BBA requirements, students will have met the SFU lower-level requirements for the Bachelor of Arts (Economics Major) and Economics Minor program.

A general checklist of courses specifying an Associate of Arts degree is available through the Faculty of Commerce and Business Administration or the Registrar’s Office. For a plan of study that best suits your goals, please consult with Academic Advisors and the Economics faculty. Please check the specific course prerequisites in the online calendar.

For transfer to Douglas College BBA
Students who have completed the Associate of Arts degree can apply to complete their BBA
degree at Douglas College. The new BBA has majors in either Accounting or Financial Services
and Administration. Please choose electives carefully to satisfy “bridging” requirements.
