Engineering Transfer

The Engineer's ability to master complex problems, empathize with society, understand environments and deal with reality gives him or her qualities which can be used to ensure a sustainable future.

At Douglas College, we offer a package of courses that is equivalent to the first year of the University of British Columbia Applied Science Program and Simon Fraser University Engineering Science Program. Students who wish to pursue their careers in the following disciplines: Chemical and Biological Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer and Software Engineering, Electrical and Electronic, Environmental, Geological Engineering, Mechanical, Metals and Materials Engineering are encouraged to register in the following courses.

Douglas College students transferring to engineering programs at the University of Victoria should consult the individual institution or BC transfer guide to determine the required courses. For information about the Engineering Schools outside of British Columbia see the Canadian Council of Professional Engineers Douglas College courses which transfer to the UBC engineering program are offered in the Fall, Winter and Summer semesters. Students are required to complete these courses in no longer than one academic year and achieve a minimum GPA of 2.5 for entry directly into second year at UBC.

NOTES

  1. Students must complete a combination of APSC 1110, CHEM 1110 and CHEM 1210 to receive credit for UBC's APSC 150 (Engineering Case Studies) and CHEM 154 (Chemistry for Engineering).
  2. English 1130 may be taken in the Fall, Winter or Summer semester.
  3. CHEM 1210 may be taken either in the Winter or Summer semester.
  4. Students may register for SOCI 2290 (Society and Technology) as the complementary studies course in the Fall semester (see Calendar for details).

Alternatively applicants with more than 24 UBC transfer credits in the first-year engineering program may be eligible for admission into the second year, however this is not guaranteed and students should contact UBC for admission requirements.

Campus Locations

All the above courses are offered at New Westminster Campus.
