Geography

The study of Geography is rich, profound, and humanizing because it observes how physical and cultural processes are revealed in the landscape. Students who study human and physical geography will achieve the sense of balance often found in modern geographic thought. Geography offers the opportunity to study the earth as the fund of human knowledge and the home of humanity. Courses are offered in such topics as cartography, geomorphology, meteorology, climatology, cultural geography, the human impact on the environment and the geography of regions such as Canada, British Columbia and Latin America. They involve weekly lectures, laboratories, discussions, field trips and field projects. Students who take courses in the Department of Geography will acquire the knowledge of the world necessary to fully participate in a democratic society. In addition, students will be trained in many practical skills which will be useful for careers in geography, environmental studies and geographic information systems.
