ICARE Literacy Tutoring

The Individualized Community Adult Reading Education (ICARE) Program helps English-speaking adults who want to improve their basic reading, writing and/or numeracy skills by matching them with a trained volunteer literacy tutor. Assessments and tutoring are provided free of charge. A learner works with a tutor once a week at a time and place convenient for both.

Volunteer Tutors

Volunteers are always needed to tutor adults in basic literacy skills. Douglas College offers free training to adults willing to commit themselves to a tutoring relationship for one year. Training consists of approximately 20 hours of workshop instruction and 12 hours of classroom experience.

For more information about learning with a tutor or becoming a volunteer tutor, call ICARE at 604-527-5409. All inquiries are kept confidential.
