Intake Date/Application Deadlines

The BPEC degree has an annual intake in the Fall semester. Application deadline is February 28.

Admissions Criteria

The Sport Science department uses a preferential admissions procedure. Admission to the 1st year Bachelor of Physical Education and Coaching program ELEMENTARY OPTION is contingent upon:

Availability of seats; and
All of the admission requirements in either section A or B below; and
All of the admission requirements of section C below; and
Applicant ranking as determined by a process of preferential admission as described in section D below.

A) Minimum Academic Admission Requirements: Secondary Applicants

General Admission Requirements; and
English 12 with a minimum grade of "C", or approved substitution; and
PE 11 with a minimum grade of "C", or equivalent; and
Two additional grade 11 or 12 courses with a minimum grade of "C" (other than PE 12); and
Principles of Math 11 or Foundations of Math 11 with a minimum grade of "C", or equivalent.

B) Minimum Academic Admission Requirements: Post-Secondary Applicants

Note: Students who have completed 12 or more university transferable credits will be considered post-secondary applicants.

General Admission Requirements; and
English 12 with a minimum grade of "C", or approved substitution; and
PE 11 with a minimum grade of "C", or equivalent; and
Cumulative GPA of 2.33 (minimum 12 credits); and
Principles of Math 11 or Foundations of Math 11 with a minimum grade of "C", or equivalent.

Note: ENGL 1130 is a Graduation requirement of the program, therefore students who do not have at least a "B" grade in English 12 will be required to write the Douglas College Writing Assessment to become eligible to register in ENGL 1130.

C) All Applicants

Two reference letters from coaches, PE teachers or community leaders verifying one season of sport experience and character reference; and
Submit a medical declaration form indicating a satisfactory level of physical and emotional health; and
When offered a seat in the program submit a Criminal Record Search (CRS) - prior to entry to the program. Any CRS with a notation of record will be reviewed by the Registrar's Office.

Note: Full-time applicants only - When offered a seat in the program must pay a non-refundable, non-transferable $350 tuition deposit.

D) Preferential Admissions Process

If necessary, to determine eligibility for a seat in the program, the preferential admission process will assign scores to:

Secondary applicants

Post-secondary applicants

2 reference letters submitted with application

Best grade received in grade 11 or 12 Physical Education

best grade in a SPSC or equivalent applied methods course.

Grade received in English 12

grade in 3-credit college or university English course, OR, score on the Douglas College Writing Assessment

Best grade received in Principles of Math 11 or higher course.

grade in a 3-credit college or university Math course equal to or higher than Math 11.

Following this review applicants are ranked according to their total score. Applicants with the same total score will be offered seats based on their date of application.
