A. Bachelor of Physical Education and Coaching (BPEC), Elementary Option Graduation Requirements
To apply for graduation for the Bachelor of Physical Education & Coaching Degree (elementary option), students must meet the following minimum criteria.
Non-Academic Requirements
- CPR and First Aid certification
- NCCP Competition Introduction "trained", AND NCCP Competition Development "trained"
- HIGH-FIVE Certification
- BCRPA Theory
- Attendance at a minimum of one (1) Physical Education professional conference (e.g. QDPE)
Non-Sport Science Academic Requirements
- 6 credit hours of English
- ENGL 1130
- Minimum three (3) additional credit hours of English Literature
- MATH 1191
- PHIL 4205
- 9 credit hours of Science
- Must include both BIOL 1109, 1209
- Additional minimum three (3) credit hours of lab science approved for entry into applicable Bachelor of Education PDP.
- 30 credit hours of Non-Sport Science electives
- Minimum of 3 credit hours in Canadian Geography
- Physical Geography does not meet this requirement
- Minimum of 3 credit hours in Canadian History
- Minimum of nine (9) credit hours from upper level courses (upper level courses are those that that require 6 credit hours of preparatory work).
Sport Science Academic Requirements
- 24 credit hours of Lower-Level SPSC courses
- Must include 1105, 1151, 1164, 1192, 1195, 2205, 2231, 2275
- 30 credit hours of Upper-Level SPSC courses
- Must include 3158, 3276, 3240, 3275, 3399, 4199, 4231, 4291
- Plus 2 of the following: 3203, 4161, 4256
- 15 credit hours of Applied Methods courses
- Must include 1103, 1312 (or 1316 and 1317), 1313, plus, 1 "team" applied method or performance course. Remaining credits may be chosen from individual, team or alternative environment courses.
- 8 credit hours of Sport Science Fieldwork or equivalent
- Each fieldwork course represents 1 credit hour
- Students may be given credits toward fieldwork requirements based on a Prior Learning Assessment (PLA).
- Credits awarded through prior learning assessment are limited to 75 percent of the total credit required to meet the fieldwork graduation requirements. Exceptions to this limit may be considered by the department.
Douglas College Degree Requirements
- 45 credits must be taken in courses at the 3000/4000 level.
- 25% of upper-level credits must be taken at Douglas College to receive a Douglas College Degree.
Note for Students Transferring from other Academic Institutions
Students who have attended a recognized post-secondary institution or undertaken special training in a career area may be eligible to receive some advance credit toward the degree. A maximum of 75% of all BPEC credit requirements can be transferred from other institutions to Douglas College. To receive transfer credit, students must submit an official transcript with their Application for Admission or Readmission along with a Transfer Credit Request form. A detailed course outline may also be required before credit can be evaluated.
Detailed course outlines are required for credit evaluation of courses taken outside of B.C. Institutions (Note: Calendar descriptions are not adequate for evaluation purposes).
Students planning to transfer to another post-secondary institution must consult the calendar and transfer guide of the receiving institution regarding transferability of Douglas College courses. - Students may obtain exemptions from 1310 with the successful completion of BOTH 1110 and 1210.
- Minimum of 18 credit hours from upper level (3rd & 4th year) courses
- 9 credit hours of electives
- 3 credits from any subject area.
- 3 credits of Science excluding Sport Science and Biology courses.
- 3 credits from any elective excluding Sport Science and Biology courses
