On the weekend the golf team traveled to the Bear Mountain Collegiate tournament hosted by Camosun College.  The tournament included teams from as far away as Edmonton and Calgary.  The Douglas group was able to field a women's team and Kate Weir made her debut and came out with a bang!  Kate shot 78 83 to finish with a 161 total to win the individual title.  Michaela Staller finished not to far behind with an 86 and disappointing 84 to finish 3rd at 170 out of a field of 12 ladies.  Douglas also took the "team" title by a whopping 38 shots over Mount Royal University. The ladies look forward to the fall season and hope to build upon their dominant play this weekend.

The Royals Golf Team is about to take the next step in their season by competing in the CCAA national championships at Thompson Rivers University next week.  Schools from the BCCAA, ACAC, ACAA, OCAA, and Quebec will be competing October 11th to 15th.  120 men and 21 women will be taking part in the Championship at The Dunes in Kamloops.  Douglas hopes to improve and have everybody contribute next week as 4 of th 5 scores count towards the team score.  The men have struggled with consistency this season and the key will be for their 3rd and 4th guys to post some scores in the 70s.  Douglas will send Michaela Staller as an individual in the womens division, and she has seen some success on the BCCAA circuit winning the 2nd tournament of the season at Chilliwack defeating 2009 CCAA silver medalist Jen Woods of UBCO.  The team leaves for Kamloops October 11th and the practice round and skills competition will take place on October 12.  Brock Staller should be a contender in the long drive competition.  Round 1 commences Wednesday.
