News and Events

  • Wheelchair BasketballWheelchair Basketball Intramurals a big hit at David Lam!

The Centre for Campus Life has teamed up with Wheelchair Basketball Canada to provide what may be the hottest new activity on campus. Cheryl Corrigan (BC team coach) showed students how to use their chairs and how to play the game, while Pat Anderson, world champion and Paralympic Gold Medalist, wowed students with his incredible skills and acrobatic maneuvers. After an hour of fun, students were already talking about the following session.

For students interested in trying it out, sessions are Tuesday from 12:30pm-1:30pm. No experience is necessary. Register online

  • DodgeballDodgeball: NW Intramural highlights included the outstanding performances of Team Kraken, Easy Target and the Singles (a group of individual players who joined the league). Throwing and catching to some upbeat tunes, the teams squared off to see who could win the most games in a 15 minute match, and each week was an exciting and close competition! Thanks to all the participants who joined in January and February! The next offering of dodgeball will see an adaptation of the rules to create a more inclusive game environment. The objective of the game will be to knock down sets of pins stacked at the back of the court rather than to solely knock out players. Douglas Rec Dodgeball is an exciting game for all levels of players and we're looking forward to growing this league at the college.

  • Basketball Basketball: Thanks to the enthusiasm of dozens of active participants Intramural Basketball is running strong. Douglas students and staff were truly impressed with the performance of both the girls and guys for the past two months after being able to watch the friendly competition from the upper level bleachers. A range of skill levels allowed for basketball beginners and seasoned veterans to take part and enjoy the full court and half court league play. Given the success at the start of the Winter Semester, basketball has been extended into Intramurals 2. Full court games will run from 2-4pm on March 6 and March 13, and half court warm ups will be permitted from 1pm. Douglas Rec would like to thank all the players for their hard work and weekly commitment to the new Intramurals program!

  • Badminton: Badminton has had a loyal group of supporters each week. A single court is always available for play, and will continue to be available from 12-4pm on Friday, March 6 and Friday, March 13. Stay posted for our Sports Day badminton tournament taking place the morning of Friday, March 20th at the NW gym. Thanks again for all the badminton supporters and we hope to see you out regularly for recreational play!

David Lam Campus:

Intramurals at David Lam Campus also saw a positive start to the semester with a regular group of basketball, badminton, and indoor soccer players. We are very excited to have students using Gym 3 at Pinetree Community Centre for Intramurals and Recreational Sports. Thanks to all the participants for joining us so far on Wednesdays!

We anticipate the month of March to be a strong showing for intramural players at DL Campus. We will meet every Wednesday at 2pm in Gym 3 at Pinetree Community Centre for sports. If the weather is nice we will go outside for football, Frisbee, and soccer; however if the weather is not so nice we will stay inside and continue with basketball, badminton, and indoor soccer.

Wednesday, March 11 will be the Table Tennis Tourney at David Lam (Gym 3).

Intramurals 2 @ NW- Ball Hockey, Indoor Soccer

Ball Hockey: Week 1 of ball hockey saw a very talented group of players out at the NW Gym on Friday, February 20. Game stars were Geoff L. for the red team with his stellar offensive performance, and Daniel L., a CSRW student assistant, who put on a remarkable performance in net for the first week. Ball Hockey will resume on Friday, March 6 and Friday, March 13 from 12-1pm at the NW Gym. There will be 1 hour of ball hockey from 9-10 am on Sports Day, Friday, March 20.

Indoor Soccer: An exhausted group of players ran out a full court, 40 minute game of indoor soccer to "kick" off the league. A mixture of girls and guys enjoyed this first match, in the end conceding that the game was an unbelievable indoor workout for the first week of play. Indoor Soccer would like to see more participants, so feel free to join for the remaining games on Friday, March 6 and Friday, March 13 from 1-2pm!

Table Tennis @ NW: Congratulations to Jerin & Lenny who were the Table Tennis Tourney winners!!Round 2 - Table Tennis Tourney will be at 2:30 pm on Thursday, March 12 at the NW Multisport Room next to the Gym. See you out!
