This summer Douglas College and the Centre for Educational and Information Technology (CEIT) will begin migrating Faculty and Staff computers from Windows XP to Windows 7.
Is your Windows XP computer being replaced with a new Windows 7 computer?
Please refer to this web site, http://opcap.douglas.bc.ca/pdf/current_replacement_list.pdf to determine if your computer is scheduled to be replaced. Search the website for your computer B#. Your B# is can be found affixed to your current computer.
When is this happening?
Computer replacements will begin July 18 and will continue into the fall. Please refer to this page which lists a tentative replacement schedule.
Laptop replacement
If your laptop is on the replacement list, a CEIT technician will contact you. He or she will make an appointment with you to pick up your old laptop. They will also leave you a laptop documentation package, and insure that your laptop connects to the network.
Please Note: You must hand in your old laptop to receive a new one.
Test Critical Software – Will your software work in Windows 7?
CEIT has tested all standard software in the Windows 7 environment.
However, it is your responsibility to identify non standard software currently licensed and installed on your computer. Check out this website, http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/windows-7/en-us/default.aspx to determine if your software will work on Windows 7.
Contact our helpdesk at helpdesk@douglascollege.ca and CEIT will investigate compatibility issues with you. You’ll be asked to provide your name, local, room number, and B# of your computer.
If it is discovered that your software is incompatible with Windows 7, you will need to purchase an upgrade or alternative prior to receiving your new pc.
Move important data and bookmarks to the h:\ drive
Please ensure all your data and bookmarks are saved to your h:\ drive (call our helpdesk at 5330 if you require assistance).
