Canon VIXIA HF M400 High Definition Camcorder

Canon VIXIA HF M400 HD camcorder We've recently added a new batch of HD camcorders that record to a 16 GB SDHC card. That means no more tapes! Check out the Canon website for the full specs » Interested? Book one now.

The accompanying VideoBrowser software has been installed on all our A11 laptops which easily transfers recordings from the camcorder to the laptop's hard drive. You can then burn your recording to a DVD using the same VideoBroswer sofware or Windows Live Movie Maker.

Important Note

A computer running XP will not transfer files from this camcorder.

Alternatively, here's how to transfer your recording to an external USB drive using Windows Explorer:
  • Turn on the camcorder and press the camera/play button (under/opposite the LCD touch screen) to switch the camcorder into playback mode
  • Connect the camcorder to the laptop via USB
  • On the camcorder touch screen, select All (for PC only)
  • When the connection is successfully established, USB Connection appears on the screen
  • Click on Start > Computer > Drive (select the one the camcorder's USB cable is connected to) PRIVATE > AVCHD > BDMV > STREAM
  • In the STREAM folder, under View, select Large icons
  • You will see a frame from each video file displayed. Drag and drop to drive where the removable USB thumb drive is connected.

The Kobo Vox

Kobo Want to find out if you like using an eReader? The Library has just added a new eReader, the Kobo Vox , to the collection of circulating eReaders. Along with the Vox, we have the Kobo Touch , the Amazon Kindle , the Sony Reader , and the Barnes and Noble Nook Color .

The Kobo Touch, Kindle and Sony are dedicated eReaders that use the e-Ink technology. The Kobo Vox and Nook are both in color and are more like tablets allowing you to surf the web and download apps. To find more information about all the different tablets and e-readers on the market you can take a look at Consumer Reports review of Tablets and e-Book Readers in its September 2011 issue . Burnaby Public Library also has information on their website on choosing an e-book reader and West Vancouver Memorial Library has an eBook Wiki .

All these devices, except for the Kindle, will allow you to download and borrow books and audiobooks from the public library. All BC libraries have access to British Columbia's "Library to Go" . You will only be able to borrow a book or audio book using the library card from the public library where you live. Many of the public libraries have clinics and guides on how to help you, like this one from the Coquitlam Public Library on downloading audiobooks & e-books .
