Josh Friesen: Kamloops graduate takes it outside

Kamloops native and Douglas College valedictorian Josh Friesen says the adventure is just beginning for him.

Friesen, a Bachelor of Therapeutic Recreation graduate, came to Douglas with a passion for helping people heal and grow through wilderness adventures. He began the Therapeutic Recreation diploma program in 2004, but the self-described "life-long learner" decided to continue his studies and get his degree.

Friesen plans to work developing ability technology so that everything the great outdoors has to offer is accessible to people with disabilities.

"I believe in small steps to big ideas such as equal access and inclusion, so will focus on ability technology, access being the first step to getting everyone in touch with the wilderness environment," says Friesen.

And he has what it takes to do this, say his instructors.

"Josh can go anywhere he chooses and will make a difference in the life of everyone who has the pleasure to work with him," says Therapeutic Recreation coordinator and instructor Geri Paterson.
