Sandra McLaughlin: Port Moody graduate says it?s never too late

Douglas College valedictorian and Port Moody mom Sandra McLaughlin knew she wanted to return to the workforce after raising her children at home for several years. She wanted to polish up her computer skills and needed a program that would allow her to juggle her studies with her family's needs.

McLaughlin found the supportive environment she was looking for at Douglas, where she enrolled last fall. She graduates this spring with an Office Administration - Administrative Assistant Certificate.

Her instructors describe her as a reflective, sensitive communicator who always worked cooperatively with her classmates.

"Sandra was the ideal student. Not only was her academic performance outstanding, but her attention to detail and her willingness to assist other students were always evident," says instructor Neil Gillis.

McLaughlin is currently working at BCIT in the purchasing department.

The most important thing she learned at Douglas?

"It's never too late to go back to school and pursue a new career."
