March 23, 2009 - Former Woodlands residents speak out

Former residents of the Woodlands School and family members will speak out during a panel, Our Story, taking place at Douglas College on March 27. Residents of the Woodlands School, which closed in 1996, ranged from individuals diagnosed with physical and developmental disabilities, to those with behavioural challenges deemed inappropriate by society, to wards of the province. Many say they were physically and sexually abused by staff. The panel will be moderated by Wendy Parry, a Classroom and Community Support instructor at Douglas College.

Our Story takes place on Friday March 27 at 1pm in the Laura C. Muir Performing Arts Theatre at Douglas College, 700 Royal Avenue (one block north of the New West SkyTrain station). Admission is free. Call 604-527-5723 to reserve a seat or for more information.

Our Story wraps up The Woodlands Project which took place at Douglas College this month. Visit http://www.douglas.bc.ca/community/artsevents.html for details.
