September 9, 2009 - Young founder of Uganda children’s home speaks at Douglas

The public is invited to come on September 16 to hear about one person’s journey from studying at Douglas College to living and working in Africa.

Carli Travers, a graduate of the Community Social Service Worker Program, completed her course work in Uganda, Africa in 2006. She was so taken with the country and its people that she returned in 2007 to establish a home for orphaned children.

The Abetavu Children’s Home is a safe haven providing hope for the future. Travers, her husband Robert and two of their children are visiting Canada. They are coming to Douglas to speak about establishing the Abetavu Children’s Home. Come and hear this inspiring story of how a Douglas graduate made her dream a reality halfway around the world in Uganda.

Travers’s presentation takes place on Wednesday, September 16 from 10am-noon at the New Westminster Campus of Douglas College at the Laura C. Muir Performing Arts Theatre, 4th floor.
