Mar 1 - Douglas College enhances opportunities for community partnerships

Douglas College has been approved by the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) to apply for research grants to support applied research and innovation with partners in the community.

CFI grants are awarded for innovative research projects. One example is the College-Industry Innovation fund, established in December, to support business innovations.

"Achieving CFI eligibility status is a significant step for Douglas College and has involved the work of many people," says Kathy Denton, Vice President, Academic, at Douglas College. "If we are successful in obtaining CFI funding, we can increase research infrastructure in the College and create opportunities for faculty and students to conduct applied research to meet the needs of our community partners."

"Applied research at colleges increasingly has the attention of governments," says Scott McAlpine, President of Douglas College. "It is recognized more and more that colleges will play a key role in advancing the business and social innovation agenda in Canada. Announcements such as this are a clear signal that Douglas College is here for the community, and we look forward to enhancing our partnerships to better prepare our students for participation in the knowledge-based economy and for global citizenship."

Within the last two years, Douglas College has received grant eligibility status from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada and the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada
