Accounting
"Accounting is the language of business. If you want to pursue a career in business, having some fluency in the language is crucial."
- Gilbert Fick, MBA, CA, Accounting Instructor
In business the numbers tell the story and nobody understands the numbers better than an accountant. That's the bottom line.
If you have an aptitude for numbers, enjoy problem solving and want a financially rewarding career, accounting is an excellent field for you. And Douglas College's Accounting Department is a great place to develop skills that will help you thrive in an accounting or business career.
Learn skills that work
Accounting is a challenging profession. The Douglas College Accounting Management Program strives to provide you with skills that meet the demands of the changing workplace. You'll learn financial, computerized and management accounting, as well as computer information systems, and you'll learn how to look at the big picture while determining the bottom line.
Even if you are not taking the Accounting Program, you can still take Accounting courses, which provide a great opportunity to learn core business and personal finance skills. Many Commerce and Business Administration programs require students to take some accounting courses.

"I loved the teachers in the Accounting Program and I like the facilities at both campuses. There are a lot of international students and the teachers know how to present their concepts and knowledge to make it easy for us to understand. My teachers were always encouraging me with my career - they forwarded me job postings and helped me get my co-op job."
Martha Barbossa, a second-year student in the Accounting Management Diploma Program, completed a Co-operative Education term in the Accounting Department of Vancouver General Hospital.
