Program details
There is a steady demand for accountants with professional qualifications. Get the skills and education you need for a great career in accounting with the Accounting Management Diploma Program. This 60-credit program is designed to prepare you for junior management positions in a variety of areas, including general accounting, financial management, cost accounting and accounting information systems. The Diploma can be completed in four semesters (two years) with full-time study; length of program completion will vary for part-time study.
Transfer to Professional Accounting Associations
The Accounting Management Diploma Program can transfer to professional programs leading to the CGA , CA and CMA designations. Please contact the organizations for details on the credit you can receive for your Douglas College education.
Further education
Looking to get ahead with a Bachelor's degree in business? Completing the Accounting Management Diploma allows you to transfer into advanced studies of many business-based degrees.
You can choose to stay at Douglas and complete your Bachelor of Business Administration with specialization in Financial Services and Administration or Accounting.
The Accounting Management Diploma also provides you with block transfer credits to:
- Open University (Bachelor of Business Administration)
- University of Lethbridge (Post-Diploma Bachelor of Management)
- Kwantlen Polytechnic University (Bachelor of Business Administration)
Transfer credit has also been arranged with Simon Fraser University, the University of Victoria, the University of Northern British Columbia and the University of the Fraser Valley.
Note that certain conditions apply to transfer to degree programs, including the Douglas College Bachelor of Business Administration Program. Please contact the Faculty of Commerce and Business Administration for more information on transfer.
Admission requirements
To gain admission to this program, you must meet the following requirements:
- Douglas College General Admission Requirements
- Because both Principles of Mathematics 11 with a minimum grade of "C" and Academic English 12 with a minimum grade of "C" are prerequisites to many courses offered in the Accounting Management Program, applicants should complete both prior to beginning the program.
Note that students with work experience may also be considered. If you have work experience in the field, contact the department for more information.
Upgrade for business programs
If you need to upgrade your reading, writing, math or word processing skills, consider the Pre-Business Foundations Program. Financial Aid may be available for students who those who qualify. Please see the Pre-Business Foundations website for more information.
How to apply
In order to complete the program in four consecutive, full-time semesters (excluding the summer), it is necessary to begin in the Fall Semester (September). However, if you wish to take longer to complete the program, you may also start in Winter (January) or Summer (May).
It is recommended that you apply at least three months prior to your intended start date. To improve your opportunities at registration, it is strongly advised that you apply as early as possible, but not more than one year in advance of the intake.
