604-527-JOBS facilitates the transition to employment for graduates of the Douglas College Adult Special Education (ASE) Programs. Douglas College ASE graduates are skilled individuals who have completed one of the following programs:
Basic Occupational Education (BOE)
- Retail and Business Services
- Electronics and General Assembly
- Food Services
Customer Service and Cashier Training (when available)
Light Warehouse Training (when available)
Career and Employment Preparation
Consumer and Job Preparation
Transitions to Work
Service to Graduates
Free services available to Douglas College Adult Special Education graduates include:
- Working with each graduate on an individual basis, focusing on strengths, skills and abilities
- Identifying an employment goal for the job search
- Developing an action plan
- Preparing and distributing cover letters and resumes
- Providing a current job posting board, a large database of employers and Internet and job bank access
- Practicing and preparing for the interview
- Advocating for workplace accommodations
- Securing job placements for successful candidates
- Collaborating with Community Employment Services to ensure successful transitions
Service to Employers
- Referrals of suitable graduates
- Availability of up to four weeks unpaid job training, prior to hiring
- Initial job coaching to enhance acquisition of skills
- Developing a liason between employers and appropriate agencies for long-term follow-up
