Online Autism Outreach Training

Are you a Behaviour Interventionist working with a child who has autism and living in a rural or remote area of B.C.? Are you looking to expand your knowledge and upgrade your skills?

If so, the Online Autism Outreach Training program, created in partnership with the BC Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD), is for you.

Running from January to May 2012, the training consists of two courses. In Teaching and Learning: Foundations (CCSD 1150), you will learn Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) methodology and how to use it in your work. Behaviour Intervention Lab (BHIN 1340) is a seminar-based course that will give you the opportunity to refine your skills and reflect on your behaviour intervention practice. Instructors are Board Certified Behaviour Analysts who are highly experienced in working with children who have autism.

All coursework is done online, so you don’t need to relocate or travel to take advantage of this opportunity. Also, since this initiative is funded by MCFD, there is no course tuition; all you pay is a $92.20 student fee.

If you plan on taking this program, one recommendation is you need to have basic computer skills and high-speed internet access.

With the Online Autism Outreach Training program, you can start working toward your Behaviour Intervention credential and your career supporting people with disabilities. The two courses can be applied toward a Behaviour Intervention Certificate and/or a Classroom and Community Support Diploma-BI Specialty from Douglas College and other related post-secondary programs.

To apply, click the “Apply Now” button at the top of this page, download and print the PDF file and mail it along with your cheque or credit card information for $92.20 and a BI work reference to Wendy Sashikata, CFCS, Douglas College, PO Box 2503, New Westminster, BC, V3L 5B2. Applications will not be accepted online. The deadline for applications is Dec 9, 2011.

For more information about applying, fees, and any additional questions, contact Wendy Sashikata at sashikataw@douglascollege.ca or call 604 527 5612.
