"If you study nature, you will learn to love it and conserve it and preserve it."
Roger Peterson
If it swims, slithers, runs or flies - if it puts down roots or goes extinct - it's biology.
Biology is the study of living things, a science that explores the diversity and similarities of living things - and how they interact with each other and their environments. Biology is a very large science which encompasses many specialties - from botany to genetics and molecular biology, and from biochemisty to zoology, as well as dozens of others. Delving into relationships that affect living things, Biology is also linked to other sciences such as Chemistry, Geology and Physics.
At Douglas College, we offer university transfer courses at the first- and second-year levels. The courses explore subjects such as Human Anatomy, Marine Biology, Environmental Genetics and Urban Ecology. Successful completion allows you to transfer into university studies in Biology and other laboratory-science programs. Human Biology courses are also linked to Douglas College programs such as Therapeutic Recreation, Health Information Systems, and General or Psychiatric Nursing.
Douglas College offers a strong tradition in both studying and working on environmental issues. The Douglas College Institute of Urban Ecology is a dynamic group of students and community volunteers involved in environmental enhancement and education projects across Greater Vancouver since 1984.
