Get a rewarding and challenging career enhancing the education and well-being of children or adults with disabilities. There are three study options within this department: Behaviour Intervention Certificate (Autism Specialty), Classroom and Community Support Diploma or Certificate and Disability and Applied Behavioural Analysis Advanced Citation.

Ways to study
Behaviour Intervention Certificate (Autism Specialty): this 15-credit entry level certificate will prepare you to work one-on-one with young children with autism in a variety of settings.
Aboriginal Child, Family and Community Studies: in this stream, you earn credits toward the Child and Youth Care Diploma, Classroom and Community Support Program and Early Childhood Education Certificate.
Classroom and Community Support Diploma or Certificate: this 60-credit diploma or 45-credit certificate will give you the knowledge and skills you need to work as a Special Education Assistant or support individuals with a developmental disability in the community as a Community Support Worker or Employment Support Worker. Diploma students can also choose a Behaviour Interventionist (autism) specialty within their credential.
Disability and Applied Behaviour Analysis Advanced Certificate: if you already have a degree or diploma and want to get the specialized skills you need to become a BACB® certified Assistant Behaviour Consultant, or if you are a teacher looking for TQS approved courses to increase your special needs knowledge and skills, choose this 15-credit upper level advanced certificate.
Laddered programs
Start dates
All three program options start in September of each year. Part-time students in the Classroom and Community Support Diploma or Certificate program can start in September or January.
Costs
Cost will depend on which program you choose. Tuition is calculated on a per-credit basis:
- Behaviour Intervention Certificate - 15 credits: approx $1,500
- Classroom and Community Support Diploma - 60 credits: approx $8,000
- Classroom and Community Support Certificate - 45 credits: approx $6,750
- Disability and Applied Behaviour Analysis Advanced Certificate - 15 credits: approx $1,575

Location
As of September 2012, the Classroom and Community Support program is moving to the David Lam campus in Coquitlam. Workplace learning placements are at various locations around Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley.
