Endowment Fund

Students in Uganda

Purpose

The Uganda Endowment Fund supports development with funds awarded to dedicated people and innovative projects that will help the hard-working people of Uganda in their effort to become self-sufficient. The endowment provides funding for social service agencies in the city of Masaka including:

  • customized projects designed to meet societal and community needs
  • programs to encourage and support educational goals
  • projects that combat unemployment
  • equipment and resources to support the development of health care and social services

With a focus on inspiring children, strengthening families and building community resources, the Uganda Endowment Fund creates opportunities for achievement and advancement.

How the Uganda Endowment Fund works

All funds raised for the Uganda Endowment Fund will managed by the Douglas College Foundation on behalf of the Community Social Service Work Department. The Foundation will match donations received up to a maximum of $10,000 for the fiscal 2007/08 year. The fund will be managed by the Uganda Endowment Advisory Committee.

Your donation at work

Your donation will help fund future initiatives while also supporting specific projects already established in and around the city of Masaka such as:

  • Uganda Schizophrenia Fellowship
  • The AIDS Support Organization
  • Uganda Cares
  • Uganda Society for Disabled Children

As the fund grows we hope to support additional community projects that support efforts by Ugandans to create healthy, sustainable communities where everyone can enjoy a brighter future.

Through willingness, hard work and hope the people of Uganda are building a brighter future. In spite of the compound challenges of poverty, lack of education and the effect of HIV/AIDS, the Ugandan people have staggered, but not fallen, under the pressures. However, chronic unemployment and poorly funded health care remain the realities of everyday life in Uganda.

The burden usually falls on women. Communities are filled with households run by children, often young girls, who are the sole providers for their family. Mortality rates due to HIV/AIDS and health problems leave grandmothers to raise young children. With unstable family lives children miss vital education and employment opportunities making it harder for them to build a better future. You can make a difference. By donating to The Uganda Endowment Fund, you'll help to build a country one person, one child, at a time.
