Matthew and Jennifer, CDP Intensive Certificate Graduates 2010

Jennifer and Matthew
Jennifer and Matthew
Certificate of Appreciation at CDC Conference
March 8, 2011

One year ago at 2010 CDC, the Career Development Practitioner Intensive students volunteered at the conference. This year, two of the graduates were at the 2011 CDC conference, this time as presenters.  Matthew gave a presentation on Getting Started @ Social Networking: Linkedin101 to conference delegates and Jennifer introduced the session, and then on behalf of BCCDA, she presented Matthew with a Certificate of Appreciation.  Their success stories follow:

Matthew’s story:
Practicum success and employment success:  Comments from Matthew’s employer Back In Motion hired Matthew Oliver as an Employment Counsellor with the Skills Connect for Immigrants Program.

Back in Motion were impressed with his enthusiasm for the industry and was very excited when he chose their organization to complete his practicum requirement. During his practicum, he demonstrated professionalism and his passion was evident in working with professional skilled immigrants looking for work in their pre-landing occupation.

Matt's extensive work experience as well as the training he received at Douglas College will certainly prove to be a successful combination when assisting Back in Motion’s clients to achieve their employment goals. We hope to accept more practicum students from Douglas College in the future.
Sincerely, Stephanie

Jennifer’s story:
I was employed quickly after completing the CDPI Program doing case-work for a Canada Mortgage and Housing Corp., Housing Program.  After this I took a break and went to Hawaii for my sister’s wedding.  My first job search tactic was to volunteer at the BC CDA 2011 Conference.  Here I made several contacts that I am now connected to on Linked In and who are thinking of me when they hear of opportunities.  I have now made connections to new and previous contacts to request informational interviews: so far I have a few scheduled.

My interests and transferable skills are so varied that I would like to be employed in any position within Career Development, but I would also be happy performing related work in a good organization, advocacy or other community social service work.
