Deafhood & the Global Community

Deafhood and the Global Community

This course will provide opportunities for students to develop an understanding of Deaf culture and learn about Deafhood. Definitions and theories of culture will be studied through a historical perspective of the lives of Deaf people around the world. Historical implications on current practices of providing services and education for deaf people in the world today will also be examined.

    • Transfer credit towards the Department of Sign Language Interpretation at Douglas College.
    • Participants must be fluent in ASL

Instructor

Nigel Howard, ASL instructor at Douglas College in the Department of Sign Language Interpretation. Nigel has a BA in Psychology from the University of British Columbia and has completed post-graduate studies at the University of Bristol.
