April Lewis, BSW, MSW (University of British Columbia, Social Work). April has spent her professional career in the medical field primarily as a Palliative and Emergency social worker. Her Master's research was entitled "The Graveyards are Filled with the Indispensable Woman" and focused on women and leadership throughout organizational change. She presented this research at the Health, Work and Wellness Conference in Toronto. She is now Manager of Primary Health Care in Richmond for Vancouver Coastal Health. She is a graduate of the Dale Carnegie course on Leadership as well as an award-winning Toastmaster. April feels that effective leaders are those who are not afraid to be self-reflective. Self-reflection leads to empathy and understanding of others which is paramount for good leaders. Being enthusiastic and sincere about the message being given also gives us credibility as leaders. April will share her humour and passion as she helps leaders become more effective communicators.
