Community Music School

The Douglas College Community Music School has been providing music training to New Westminster and surrounding communities since 1984. The school is made up of highly qualified, expereinced teachers. Classes are held at the New Westminster Campus, the David Lam Campus, in Coquitlam, or the Surrey Training Centre. The College has well-equiped teaching studios, classrooms, rehearsal rooms, practice studios, a piano lab, a MIDI electronic music studio and recording equipment. Concerts are held in a 350-seat theatre.

A wide variety of courses are available to adults, including the Douglas College Choral Society, Music Theory private lessons and group classes focusing on a variety of instruments including piano, guitar, bass and violin. In addition, we offer Suzuki Strings and Piano lessons, as well as Musical Theatre, Kodaly and private lessons.

Our students work toward meeting requirements for college or university entrance, as well as preparing for exams, festivals or competetions, developing career skills, or for personal enjoyment. There are also a number a partial scholarships available for students enrolled in private lessons.

***Note to all Students****

Classes will be suspended from December 20 - January 2 for the winter holidays.

Many classes will also be suspended From February 14 - 27 due to the Olympics and from March 7 -13 for Spring Break.  Please ask your instructor or call the office for further details.
