Suzuki Program Recital 2011
Saturday June 9, 2012 at 2-4pm

Laura C. Muir Performing Arts Theatre, Douglas College, New Westminster

Suzuki Violin, Viola and Cello

The Suzuki method is based on the premise that children learn to play instruments through listening and imitation. Group classes are an essential component of the program.

In the preparation class, children 4 to 6 years old learn rhythm, pitch, and coordination in a positive and socially active environment. Children then move on to a weekly performance class and private lessons. (Weekly 30-minute private lessons are included in the fee. Private lessons longer than 30 minutes or with senior instructors will be subject to an extra charge.)

Kodaly ear training or theory is also included in the fee. There are several opportunities for public performance throughout the year. Parents of children in the Suzuki program should be aware that a commitment from both parent and child is necessary for the full school year. Parents play an active role at Suzuki lessons and in daily home practice.

On-going classes; students may register at any time.

2012 Dates: January 9 - June 4, 2012 (19 lessons)

Please call the Suzuki Convener Miho Matsuo 778-887-9645 for further information.

Suzuki Piano

Piano SuzukiThe Suzuki Method is based on the premise that children learn to play instruments through listening and imitation. Private and Semi-private lessons (shared one-hour lessons) for Suzuki Piano students provide the opportunity for 4-6 year-old beginners to learn from one another - an essential component of the program. Lessons include rhythm, melody and coordination activities, as well as time at the piano for both children and parents, as needed. It is strongly preferred that children have an acoustic (non-electric) piano at home for daily practice.

There will be opportunities for public performance throughout the year. Parents of children in the Suzuki Piano program should be aware that a commitment from both parent and child is necessary for the full school year. Parents play an active role at Suzuki lessons and in daily home practice.

Students are recommended to enroll in supplemental Kodaly/ Orff lessons as they are beneficial, and highly complementary to the Suzuki method.

Dates: September - June (36 Sessions total.)
Time: Wednesdays: Lesson times arranged with instructor
Fees: $990 (New students starting in January 2012 will be charged a prorated fee of $660 from Jan-June)
Instructor: Lisa Hansen
Ages: 4-6 years

Please call Lisa Hansen at 604-421-4676 for further information.

Kodaly (koh-dye)/ Orff

KodalyThe Kodaly method of music education is based on the voice and the natural way we all develop our singing skills. Children experience rhythm, pitch, movement and the pleasure of singing with one another.

Through children's songs, games and dances, folk songs and more complex repertoire, the students experience the elements of music and then learn to read and write them.

There are opportunities to use rhythm instruments and pitched instruments to enhance the musical experience. These classes are highly recommended as a preparation for or adjunct to private lessons.

To maintain continuity and developmental progression, commitment for the full school year is needed.

It is built on the teachings of music education pioneers like Orff, Kodaly, and Suzuki, and informed by the latest research demonstrating the benefits of music at each stage of a child's development.

Bond with your child as you play, sing, dance, and giggle together. Your child will learn and grow through activities that stimulate brain growth, build motor skills, enhance social-emotional development, and much more. A trained, licensed Kindermusik educator seamlessly guides the class from one activity to the next and helps you understand what your child is learning.
