Children's Programs
Suzuki Violin, Viola and Cello
The Suzuki method is based on the premise that children learn to play through listening and imitation. Group classes are an essential component of the program. In the preparation class, children four to six years old learn rhythm, pitch and coordination in a positive, socially active environment. Children then move on to a weekly performance class and private lessons. (Weekly 30- or 60-minute private lessons are included in the fee. Private lessons longer than 30 minutes or with senior instructors will be subject to a small extra charge.)
Kodaly ear training or theory is also included in the fee. There are several opportunities for public performance throughout the year. Parents of children in the Suzuki program should be aware that a commitment from both parent and child is necessary for the full school year. Parents play an active role at Suzuki lessons and in daily home practice.

Suzuki Piano
The Suzuki Method is based on the premise that children learn to play through listening and imitation. Semi-Private lessons (shared one hour lessons) for Suzuki Piano students provide the opportunity for 4 to 6 year old beginners to learn from one another, which is an essential component of the program. Lessons include rhythm, melody and coordination activities, as well as time at the piano for both children and parents, as needed. Children must have an acoustic (non-electric) piano in their home on which to practice daily. Kodaly ear training is also included in the fee. There will be opportunities for public performance throughout the year. Parents of children in the Suzuki Piano program should be aware that a commitment from both parent and child is necessary for the full school year. Parents play an active role at Suzuki lessons and in daily home practice.

Kodaly (ko-die)
The Kodaly method of music education is based on the voice and the natural way we all develop our singing skills. Children experience rhythm, pitch, movement and the pleasure of singing with each other. Through children's songs, games and dances, folk songs and more complex repertoire, the students experience the elements of music and then learn to read and write them. There are opportunities to use rhythm instruments and pitched instruments to enhance the musical experience. These classes are highly recommended as a preparation or adjunct to private lessons.
To maintain continuity and developmental progression, commitment for the full school year is needed.
