Douglas College Choral Society
This intermediate/advanced choir studies and performs extended choral works and favourite melodies in the choral repertoire. Please call Alison Nixon at 604-947-0120 to arrange a brief audition. You will need some prior choral experience, commitment to this choral community and to attend rehearsals regularly. There will be several public performances throughout the term.
The DCCS is currently directed Alison Nixon, the Scottish-born and educated conductor who also directs the Nota Bene Choral Ensemble at St. Andrew?s Wesley summer choral program. Under Alison?s direction the DCCS continues to grow and develop as an advanced-level choral ensemble whose aim is to study and perform inspiring choral works, both large and small. The Choir now numbers over 70 singers and performs two major performances each season. Over the past few years the DCCS repertoire has included Haydn?s The Creation, Carl Orff?s Carmina Burana, Verdi?s Requiem, Handel?s Dixit Dominum and Faure?s Requiem.
The Choral Society welcomes all voices ranges, and is always looking for tenors and basses.

Choral Society History
The DCCS was founded in 1983 under the directorship of Tatsuo Hoshina, who was the head of vocal activities in the Douglas College Music Department from 1971 until 1998. For ten years the DCCS was composed of Douglas College music students and community members, and performed a repertoire of great choral works from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. In 1993 the DCCS was re-formed into a community choir for intermediate to advanced singers from New Westminster, Burnaby, Surrey and the Tri-Cities area. From 1993 until 1998 The DCCS was directed by Canadian music educator and conductor Patricia Rolston, who is the founding director of the Music Department at Hamilton?s Mohawk College and conductor of the Mohawk College Singers.
