Courses and Certificate Programs

Health courses, programs and customized training are designed to meet learning needs identified by professionals, paraprofessionals, health care workers and employers. Look for courses in nursing, mental health, psychiatric nursing, home support/resident care, dental assisting, community mental health, health information services and opticianry.

Certificate programs are a cluster of courses with learning outcomes and evaluative components. A minimum grade of 60 percent is required in each course. A Douglas College Continuing Education Certificate is issued upon successful completion. Certificate courses include learning outcomes and evaluative components. Courses may ladder or act as prerequisites to other education courses and programs.

Bursary Programs

The Jim Doerr Bursary and the Natural Health Bursary are available to registrants in Continuing Education courses and programs in the Faculty of Health Sciences.

James H. Doerr Bursary

This fund was established in honour of Jim Doerr upon his retirement from Douglas College in 1995. Jim was the Dean of Community Programs & Services and this bursary was created in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Continuing Education at Douglas College and his belief in lifelong learning.

Criteria for this bursary include:

  • Financial need
  • Enrollment in a Continuing Education course or program that promotes and/or contributes to the development of healthy children and families
  • Applicant must be a resident of BC

Natural Health Bursary

This bursary fund was established by Geraldine Street and Dr. Sivakumar Varma in honour of Dr. Deepak Chopra's visit to Vancouver in 2001. For many years, Dr. Chopra has provided leadership in the field of alternative/complementary medicine and healing.

Criteria for this bursary include:

  • Financial need
  • Enrolment in a Faculty of Health Sciences Continuing Education course or program
  • Applicant must be a resident of BC
