Breastfeeding Course for Health Care Providers

If you are a health care provider working with breastfeeding families, this course will give you the foundational skills you need to confidently provide effective support and empower families to reach their breastfeeding goals.

This comprehensive course covers all aspects of breastfeeding support and management. During the course you will acquire or polish skills necessary for management of common breastfeeding concerns and challenges, develop a well-round and evidence-based understanding of current optimal infant feeding practices, and be able to link theory to everyday work in lactation.

The course includes: 39 hours of classroom instruction in breastfeeding theory; 38 hours of perinatal observational experiences (documented by journaling); readings from the course text book and selected web sites; a group project assignment and presentation; mid-term and final exams. You will receive a binder of resource materials, including student notes for each class and other course material. This course is offered throughout BC and other provinces, and credits are granted from a number of educational institutes.

We fully support the breastfeeding recommendations of the World Health Organization, UNICEF and the Breastfeeding Committee for Canada.
