Case Management Officers

Case Management Officers (CMOs) generally work with federal inmates inside prisons as well with paroled inmates outside the institutions. In the prison institution, some responsibilities of the officers are as follows:

  • Assessing offender needs and behavior or attitudes which may have contributed to their criminal behavior
  • Developing plans directed at correcting individual criminal behavior
  • Helping offenders progress according to these plans
  • Making recommendations concerning offender transfers, temporary absences and conditional releases
    Outside of the institution, some responsibilities of the officer include:
  • Supervising offenders released into the community
  • Helping offfenders re enter society
  • Helping offenders abide by conditions of release
  • Suspending parole

Qualifications of Case Management Officers include:

  • University degree (preferable in a discipline relevant to the duties of the position)
  • Experience in interviewing and assessing human behavior, and in managing risk
  • Must be capable of working with offenders while maintaining a balance of a healthy relationship and enforcement
  • Confidence in self
  • Ability to work as a team player
