Correctional Officer
Correctional Officers work in the provincial and federal prisons. Duties and qualifications vary depending jurisdiction. The general duties of a correctional officer are:
- Security (including motor and foot patrols, staffing control poses, counting and escorting offenders, searching for contraband, and emergency response)
- Assisting offenders, observing behavior and interacting in a meaningful way
- Working with Case Management Officers to set up and implement correctional plans
Qualifications of Correctional Officers are as follows:
- Canadian Citizen
- Knowledge of English or English and French languages
- Post secondary education in a related field
- Experience working with the public
- Motivation to work with offenders
- Flexibility to be team players
- Tolerance to adapt to demanding work environment
