Get the knowledge and skills you need to begin a career teaching English as a Second Language here in Canada or around the world.

This intensive 15-credit, one-semester TESL citation will provide you with the practical knowledge and hands-on experience you need to teach English as a Second or Foreign Language. In the five courses, which include a 30 hour practicum, you will be exposed to real classroom situations and receive individual guidance from professional TESL teachers.

Observe and practice teaching in real ESL classes

  • Learn what is involved in designing and delivering courses
  • Develop an understanding of the theories of language acquisition
  • Gain knowledge and practice of approaches to teaching speaking, listening, reading, and writing
  • See how classroom management works in multicultural language learning
  • Receive constructive comments on your teaching from a practicum supervisor

Prepare for a wide range of ESL and EFL career or volunteer opportunities

  • Tutor and lead conversation lessons here in Canada and abroad to individuals and small groups
  • Teach and/or tutor new immigrants and refugees in local community centres and other non-profit organizations
  • Participate in international volunteer assignments providing language instruction
