Courses

Douglas College is pleased to offer courses in both composition and literature.

Writing Courses

We offer three writing courses. Our preparatory composition course reviews the basics of written communication in a small class setting. The Department's first-year academic writing course prepares students to write well and research effectively across their college and university courses. Instructors use readings that model writing and research and are carefully chosen to foster classroom dialogue. Our advanced course offers a focused study of composition theory and practice.

Literature Courses

Faculty in the English Department strive to instill a lasting appreciation of the rich heritage of literatures in English by introducing students to the transformative power of the well-ordered poem, novel or play. As well as learning about the intricacies of these art forms, students discover the historical, cultural and philosophical backgrounds of literary art and acquaint themselves with literary criticism. Our first-year offerings are notably varied, while upper-level courses offer further and more narrowly focused study. We look forward to introducing you to one of the most popular academic disciplines in North America.
