Courses

Learning occurs in classrooms, laboratories and the workplace with a focus on:

  • Helping with the activities of daily living
  • Developing new communications and real-life skills for clients
  • The latest care procedures in mental health services
  • Clinical experience for practical knowledge and employer contacts

The HCSW program gives you real-life skills required in home, mental health, assisted living, long-term care facilities and other care-giving settings. You will gain a greater range of knowledge and a greater range of employment opportunities. Whatever the need, helping people offers a challenging and rewarding career in a field that is changing rapidly. Health Authorities and care-site operators acknowledge today's workers need a wide range of knowledge that includes both physical and mental health care skills.

The updated Health Care Assistant Certificate program offers full program hours and learning objectives as suggested in the provincial curriculum. Your practicum will take place at quality clinical sites, and will include both Home Support and Assisted Living experience.
