Selections: The selection of scholarship recipients will be the responsibility of the colleges and universities based on the criteria and the parameters provided by the Foundation. They will then provide the Foundation on or before May 18, 2012 with the recipients' names, completed application forms and documents for verification that the criteria have been met. Upon confirmation from our CHF office, only then will the institution notify the recipient of winning the scholarship.
Who Can Apply
- High school students in their final year of school and who are enrolling in September of this year in a minimum two-year college diploma program in one of the above mentioned areas of training or study.
- Applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents
NOTE: Please see the areas of studies for the above mentioned scholarships.
Criteria
Applications are to be judged on the following criteria. Points assigned to each of the criteria (from a total of 100 points) are as follows:
- Work experience (20): based on quality and length of work experience with extra points for foodservice, hospitality, and culinary-related experience and for increased levels of responsibility
- Scholarship record (20): based on grade point average
- Leadership and ability to get along with others (25): based on work experience, letters of reference and responses to application questions.
- Professional promise (25): based on work experience, letters of reference and responses to application questions
- Discretionary points (10): given to the discretion of each judge and based amongst other things on quality of application (neatness, imagination and effort put into the presentation).

- Official Transcripts of Records: transcript from previous academic year and report card from your current academic year (photocopy, emailed or faxed transcripts will NOT be accepted)
- Letter/s of recommendation from a current faculty member and/or school administrator must be signed and must include address, telephone and email address (on official letterhead)
- Letter/s of recommendation from past or present employers (volunteer activities will also be considered) must be signed and must include address, telephone and email address (on official letterhead).
Payment of Scholarship Money
The scholarship money will be paid in its entirety in November of the year the scholarship is awarded. The Foundation will seek confirmation of full-time enrollment from the college before payment is made. Payment is made directly to the college for credit towards the recipient’s tuition fees. If the tuition fee has already been paid in full, the money will then be paid to the student by the college.
Deadline
Applications must be received by the college no later than Friday, May 18th
Applications received after due date will not be eligible. All French language documents must have an English translation attached.

The recipients’ list will be posted on the Foundation website www.thechf.ca/scholarships by August of the year the scholarship is awarded.

Peter W. Webster Award
This graduation award was established by Peter. W. Webster, a long-time Foundation Board Member. Each year a graduating student from the Douglas College Hospitality Management and the Criminology Programs will each receive one award. The students must be entering a degree program at a Canadian post-secondary institution. The award is renewable to a subsequent year (i.e, total of two years) if a GPA of at least 3.0 is maintained. The award is not available for the top student in each program, but rather focuses on all-around abilities and high levels of involvement in College and program activities. No application required.
Jim Sator Award
To be awarded to a student in the Hospitality Management Diploma program who has demonstrated academic achievement, and has a minimum GPA of 3.0. Recipient must be in need of financial assistance.
Class Act Award
This award was established from the proceeds of an annual event hosted by the Hospitality Management Program and the Douglas College Foundation. Preference will be given to students in the Hospitality Management Program.

This bursary was created by family, friends and colleagues to honour the life of Gayle Jackson. Gayle was a Foods instructor at Douglas College from 1996 - 2008. This bursary will benefit students who are pursuing a career in Food and Beverage.Rosemary Rowe Memorial Bursary
Established in 2002, this bursary has been established by members of the Rowe family in Rosemary's memory. Preference given to students in the Hospitality Management Program with dependants.
Betty Fulton Memorial Bursary
Established in 2001, this bursary has been established by the Rowe and Fulton families in Betty's memory. Preference given to students in the Hospitality Management Program with dependants.
Class Act Bursary
This bursary was established from the proceeds of an annual event hosted by the Hospitality Management Program and the Douglas College Foundation. Preference will be given to students in the Hospitality Management Program.
