CANADIAN HOSPITALITY FOUNDATION-2009 SCHOLARSHIP
Areas of Studies: Accommodation, Chef, Cook, Culinary, Events, Food and Beverage, Golf Club, Hospitality, Hotel, Resort, Restaurant, Tourism
Canadian Hospitality Foundation College Entrance Scholarship application form (pdf)
Selections: The selection of scholarship recipients will be the responsibility of the colleges and universities based on the criteria and the parameters provided by the Foundation. They will then provide the Foundation on or before May 21, 2010 with the recipients' names, completed application forms and documents for verification that the criteria have been met. Upon confirmation from our CHF office, only then will the institution notify the recipient of winning the scholarship.
Who Can Apply
- High school students in their final year of school and who are enrolling in September of this year in a minimum two-year college diploma program in one of the above mentioned areas of training or study.
- Applicants must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents (we will need the first 3 numbers of their Social Insurance Number)
NOTE: Please see the areas of studies for the above mentioned scholarships.
Criteria
Applications are to be judged on the following criteria. Points assigned to each of the criteria (from a total of 100 points) are as follows:
- Work experience (20): based on quality and length of work experience with extra points for foodservice, hospitality, and culinary-related experience and for increased levels of responsibility
- Scholarship record (20): based on grade point average
- Leadership and ability to get along with others (25): based on work experience, letters of reference and responses to application questions.
- Professional promise (25): based on work experience, letters of reference and responses to application questions
- Discretionary points (10): given to the discretion of each judge and based amongst other things on quality of application (neatness, imagination and effort put into the presentation).
How to Apply
Complete the application form legibly and send to the appropriate Douglas College’s awards office, guidance councilor or teacher along with the following documents. Missing or incomplete documents may be grounds for elimination:
- Application form
- Final-year official transcripts from the previous academic year and report card from your current academic year (first semester/first)
- Signed letter/s of recommendation from the school principal, teacher or guidance counselor
- Signed letter/s of recommendation from past or present employers
NOTE: Employer and school letters must include telephone numbers, and where possible, email addresses.
Payment of Scholarship Money
The scholarship money will be paid in its entirety in November of the year the scholarship is awarded. The Foundation will seek confirmation of full-time enrollment from the college before payment is made. Payment is made directly to the college/university for credit towards the recipient’s tuition fees. If the tuition fee has already been paid in full, the money will then be paid to the student by the college.
Deadline
Applications must be received by the college no later than _(Douglas College’s deadline date – April 30/10 perhaps to give you time before sending to us?) Applications received after due date will not be eligible.

Peter W. Webster Award
This graduation award was established by Peter. W. Webster, a long-time Foundation Board Member. Each year a graduating student from the Douglas College Hotel and Restaurant Management and the Criminology Programs will each receive one award. The students must be entering a degree program at a Canadian post-secondary institution. The award is renewable to a subsequent year (i.e, total of two years) if a GPA of at least 3.0 is maintained. The award is not available for the top student in each program, but rather focuses on all-around abilities and high levels of involvement in College and program activities. No application required.
Jim Sator Award
To be awarded to a student in the Hotel and Restaurant Management Diploma program who has demonstrated academic achievement, and has a minimum GPA of 3.0. Recipient must be in need of financial assistance.
Class Act Award
This award was established from the proceeds of an annual event hosted by the Hotel and Restaurant Management Program and the Douglas College Foundation. Preference will be given to students in the Hotel and Restaurant Management Program.

(this is not on the website yet - update has been requested)This bursary was created by family, friends and colleagues to honour the life of Gayle Jackson. Gayle was a Foods instructor at Douglas College from 1996 - 2008. This bursary will benefit students who are pursuing a career in Food and Beverage.
Rosemary Rowe Memorial Bursary
Established in 2002, this bursary has been established by members of the Rowe family in Rosemary's memory. Preference given to students in the Hotel and Restaurant Management Program with dependants.
Betty Fulton Memorial Bursary
Established in 2001, this bursary has been established by the Rowe and Fulton families in Betty's memory. Preference given to students in the Hotel and Restaurant Management Program with dependants.
Class Act Bursary
This bursary was established from the proceeds of an annual event hosted by the Hotel and Restaurant Management Program and the Douglas College Foundation. Preference will be given to students in the Hotel and Restaurant Management Program.
